I bought a Japanese Prius (2011) couple of months ago .. Been trying different ways to achieve the best economy .. Recently on a 425 km (265 miles) return trip I was able to achieve the following stats ..

First leg (only driver in car i.e me) :
    Distance: 175 km (109 miles)
    Avg Speed: 65 km/hr (40.3 mi/hr)
    Fuel Economy: 29.7 km/ltr [69.85 mi/gal (US)]

End of journey (on second leg we were 03 persons and more that 300 kg worth of luggage in the trunk and passenger seat) :
Total Distance: 428 km (266 miles)
    Avg Speed: 52 km/hr (32.3 mi/hr)
    Fuel Economy: 28.3 km/ltr [66.56 mi/gal (US)]

Note 1: The trip was on highway (not a freeway/motorway) with connecting roads and there was lot of traffic on the way. Hence, the low average speed.

Note 2: Usually it takes me around 2 hours to complete one leg of this journey, but this time it took me 30-35 mins extra (on each leg) as i was driving for economy. So no big deal if you have time :)

[P.S. I have been trying to upload the pics of dash display but it comes with an error every time .. will keep trying though ..]

You must be definitely on 15 inch wheels. I do not think that is possible with 17 inch wheels.

I do miss how the 15's on my old '13 liftback three seemed to roll forever effortlessly (had them pumped up a couple psi from max) compared to my current 17's. Even pumped up real high they don't roll near as easy as the 15's for some reason.

But I like how the 17's Handle a lot better than the 15's....

Op - Impressive mpg. Good stuff.
Now try to average 65mpg for the tank ;)

Yup thats what i've heard from others as well .. the 17's look real cool as well on this car .. but the obvious reason why i stick with the 15's is fuel economy as i really travel a lot .. as far as 65 mpg for the tank goes, i got a little relaxed since fuel prices have recently dropped immensely here :D.. but i will certainly give it a go on my next fill up .. :)

    very nice stats.
Averaging 65 mpg over multiple fill ups is really hard to do :coffee: unless you have a Plug in Prius

fwiw...IIRC you upload photos into your priuschat album and then link them to your messages...;)

fyi ... Your MPG statistic is also affected by::cautious:

How MPG is calculated (onboard Trip Meter is more optimistic than a Scangauge AVG, Smartphone OBDII App, manually calculating the MPG after each fill up)
Driving Temperature (optimum temperature is from 65 to 75 Fahrenheit)
Weather (wet roads, rain, high head winds can lower MPG)
Road elevation (a 1 way trip with an overall drop in elevation tend to achieve hi MPG, also using cruise control on a mainly flat road surface can help)
Tire Pressure (higher front/rear psi improves MPG)
Tire model (e.g. LRR model-type tires improve MPG )
Top speed ( lower top speeds tend to help raise MPG performance, higher top speeds tend to lower MPG performance )
gasoline formulation can effect your MPG (the less ethanol in your gas the better)
Hypermiling techniques can help increase MPG performance
Road complexity ( straight roads with smooth dry road surface is the best, curvy roads with rough or wet road surfaces are the worst)
How many time the Prius had to do a full stop ( full stops lower fuel efficiency)

Every time you do a full stop - MPG drops.
Everty time the HV battery needs to be recharged by the Prius ICE - MPG drops.
Every time the ICE needs to do a cold start or has to reheat the coolant - MPG drops.

If you can get over 600 miles/tank , 700 miles/tank, 800 miles/tank, or +72 mpg on a tank where you have driven over 600 miles than please take a photo of your onboard MPG display and post it to the appropriate Priuschat XXX mile/tank thread or the Top MPG tank Priuschat thread.

Well, thats some information !! .. thanks mate .. im sure this will help me on more than many occasions while im on road or stopping at a station for a fill up .. as the current tank (filled with Caltex) doesnt seem to be helping much with the mileage (using same technique) .. i will try to make it suck the last drop of fuel and will stop at Shell for the next fill up .. and thanks for the tip for posting images .. will give shot right now .. !! :) also i have already placed an order for the OBDII ELM327 ..

Well, it wont even upload any image to the album i created .. tried many times .. always come with an unidentified error ..

Took advantage of the warm weather and light traffic on a fairly flat freeway.
    Rolling on Persona wheels 215/45/17.

These are on 2 oem Toyo Proxes and 2 non oem non LRR tires.(y)

if MPG true, I bet the gaso is not E10 and not US EPA style formulation so maybe quite a bit more energy content..

we have 10% ethanol in US and other regs which tend to reduce the allowable energy content per gal gaso. So if you are in a different country you may have a better gaso maybe not as clean burning but better MPG

Winter time Reformulate E10 gas doesn't freeze as easy and burns quicker than regular gas in the winter time but it also has less energy than regular gas .. about 5% less which causes the MPG to drop - cold driving temperatures makes it seem even less potent. If one accelerates gently and avoid going too fast - the lower fuel efficiency is mitigated somewhat. The carbon foot print for corn based ethanol is about the same as regular gas. If the OP is in Islamabad Pakistan - his/her driving temperature is likely around 70F ... which would help account for the OP's very nice MPG stats ... which is much better than what my Prius onboard computer is currently optimistically estimating I am getting --- about 54 mpg over 490 miles -- but I've been driving in snow and ice in sub freezing driving temperatures ...

Got it. I had the impression he was referring to my MPG.

Are there many Prius around those parts?

Our best tank to the date 68.4 MPG over 636mi. It was achieved in similar conditions: resonable temperatures (no A/C), moderate traffic and lower ~30MPH speeds. Longer trips to keep number cold starts to minimum. Prius seems to thrive in these conditions. As long as speeds low, no A/C and you are not getting stuck to force engine to kick in to charge battery.

Nice stats mate (y).. keep em rolling .. :)

Well traffic here is bumper to bumper during office/school timings .. For a few months now, because of an under construction two-lane road for metro bus, two major highways are blocked .. so the traffic is killer these days .. Otherwise its quite easy to move around in Islamabad .. I live in the heart of Islamabad .. and generally every 10th car on the roads is a Prius, ranging from 2009-2012 (both 1.5 and 1.8) .. And now it has also been launched officially in Pakistan .. So yup you see a lot of them here and in other cities as well ..

Totally agree with your reasoning .. thats exactly how you can get the best of results ..

I agree with you on moderate temperature here .. its exactly around 60(night) -70(day) here these days .. as far as the fuel goes, im not really sure about composition of fuel at different stations .. but from my experience i can certainly list them from best to worst (based on mileage) as follows:

    1. Shell
    2. Caltex
    3. Total
    4. Admore and PSO
