Any at that can charge via a plug. Although bisco's description might be better as I would include cars that can charge wirelessly. Some examples, PiP, Volt, Model S, C-Max Enrgi, Leaf, i3, etc
That totally makes sense, but is so vague it really isn't constructive. Remember all the trouble we had in the past with the generic use of the "hybrid" label? It would be best to avoid setting ourselves up for a repeat. Why feed those seeking undermine material? Also, we need context with respect to the entire market, as a whole, not just high-efficiency choices. With so much anti-car/truck promotion now, what should the expectation be for marketshare?
This is what determines market share. "Can they afford to buy/maintain/operate it, does it serve/fit their needs, do they like the way it looks/makes them feel." Subjective opinion...the proposed Bolt looks like just another ugly EV. Here's hoping on Telsa ver. 3.0
May favorite line: “We are moving quickly because of its potential to completely shake up the status quo for electric vehicles.” Think about that line for a second.
Here's a bit more info on the Bolt... GM's production 2017 Bolt EV to offer +200-mi range at $30K price - SAE International
priced at $30,000 (after incentives) how do we know there would be incentives in 2017? all i'm hearing is EV state penalties now.
If the $7500 Fed tax credit somehow gets rescinded or dries up by 2017 (which seems very unlikely) ... GM will have to lower the cost of the Bolt. Nobody is going to pay $35-$37k for the Bolt (alright maybe a few people might pay it- but no where near the same amount who would consider and then purchase the Bolt for $30k). They lowered the every day selling price (before rebates/incentives/tax credits) of the Volt $5k from $39.5k to $34.5k after MY 2013, so they can do it if they need to... hopefully they won't need to.
GM needs to contain cost *BEFORE* rollout begins... for both Bolt and the next-gen Volt... since the tax-credit expiring during their lifecycle is inevitable. Think about how much pressure Nissan will be putting on GM due to sales of Leaf having expired sooner.
I am always looking for hidden agendas, so that's just me, but I am thinking part of the reason GM hyping Bolt is to lobby for continued incentives
Didn't one of the recently proposed budgets include increasing the incentive to $10k and making it a direct rebate?
GM already gets incentives. I don't see how announcing the Bolt lobbies for incentives? They are simply trying to get ahead of the pack and be first to a 200 mile sub 40k EV. Now,, if they were lobbying for incentives, they would do something like try to convince some state or nation that they should use taxpayers money to build out a new network of hydrogen... Oops, I meant fueling stations.
Is that your prediction? That a sub $40,000 200 mile range won't lead to high volume sales? Is your definition of "high volume" the same as "mass market sales", which was 50,000 as I recall? Oh, and is that U.S. Sales or worldwide?
Great point! Cost containment has to be GM top priority. If not, competitive market forces will pressure GM to be a "reactor" rather than (highly preferred) "proactive" Any and all dreams. wants, demands for "tax incentives" are in the past. Potential buyers should not, now base their buying decisions on "tax incentives" . Tax incentives are right up there with "I bought my plug in because of "free" charging at work. Poor rational to base purchasing a plug in due to "free" work charging. I equate this to looking for a free handout mentality, IE: welfare. Markets, mature, buying decisions must also mature. 5,000 PER MONTH BY THE END OF YEAR 2 OF SALES. There's sound business reason for that goal having been set. That information FROM GM has been literally posted 100's of times. It has been discussed in great detail already. Do some searches.
Just wanted to be sure I understand you correctly. In the past you have always used the term "mass market" and not "high volume". Thank you for the clarification. It does seem a safe prediction since it is tied to 2 years after introduction since GM itself is guiding lower than that.
