You should have been able to shift back into D while rolling, and continued on your way without stopping or cycling power.

At highway speed, attempts at both Park and Reverse should instead go to Neutral with a double beep warning. These are actually faster than deliberately shifting to Neutral, so keep those in your mental toolbox in case the near-mythical Sudden Unintended Acceleration strikes.

I think it is time for you to wash that panel beneath the spoiler. When it is clean, you can see through it. :)

I wouldn’t want to stop and re-wipe the mirrors many times that would be needed. And mirror heater will also help with getting ice off the mirrors. Without it you have way higher change of scratching the surface or breaking the mechanism.

I don’t really get why you would pic this up as luxury item. It’s very usable and would be cheap to install aftermarket or diy and cheap for manufacturer to install as well. There would be hundreds of things that are better examples of luxury than heated mirrors.

I see that I'm not the only one who sometimes faces weather conditions where the mirrors fog up repeatedly while the car is moving.

In summary, the Prius never shifts, it is always in D R just rotates M/G2 the other way. N just does not power M/G2 or M/G1. B add engine braking software to D. P does engage a pawl if the car is s!ow enough.

I probably wipe the side mirrors about 5 to 10 times a year. The first wipe does the job for the driving period.

I think they should remove the damn thing. This is one of the few things I don't like about the Prius.

It is simple to decide this. Have someone with a back up beeper put it in reverse with some one listening to the car beep in the back of your car.. You can probably do it yourself by rolling down the car windows. If the beep is much louder you have your answer.

When you put my Prius in reverse the r on the display lights up (2011 Prius 2). If I don't put it in reverse properly it will beep like crazy until I do.

Over 59 years of driving vehicles I never heard a clunk even on some of the clunkers I have driven.

You feel a 'clunk', not hear one. And in the Prius you feel nothing.

Why would Toyota allow people to shut off the beeper if the government deems it to be a safety must ? Wouldn't that be a violation of the law?

In the U S they should not allow Americans to override a safety measure. I think this measure began when a woman in her eighties slammed into a brick wall when she wanted to go forward and instead put the Prius in reverse. When you are in your eighties you do have a propensity to do stupid things, ask my wife. Before the Prius I had Echos and Yaris cars. Most of my prospective buyers wanted my Echo or Yaris for their aged mother. Because she was senile and getting into numerous accidents they felt at least with this car she wouldn't kill herself. One woman locally turned into the railroad tracks instead of the road and the next day she was shopping for a new car. Others would ask if it could go in the snow. Even a go kart can go in the snow. What kind of tires you have on the car will dictate whether it goes in the snow, not the 95 horse power of the Echo or Yaris. One horse power pulling a wagon can go in the snow. When car salesmen sees a Pilgrim kicking the tires they lick their chops.

Yes I agree with you heated mirrors are nice. When it comes to either or, I choose the baby's shoes over the heated mirrors every time.

Yes but like I did say earlier. I don’t get why you did pick heated mirrors as luxury item there’s hundreds of things that I would take out before them.

I agree with you. This is one of the myriad things I consider as luxury. Another is heated car seats. I just fart and it does the same thing.

I can't say about the Gen3 prius, but on the Gen2 prius (btw you did originally post this thread in the Gen2 sub forums) you can stand 3 feet behind the Prius in reverse and even with the engine off cannot hear the beeps with the windows up. I can even hear the small amount of whine from the inverter but not the backup beep. So let me repeat what others have already told you, the beeper is inside the car and is supposed to be for the driver's benefit, not for anyone outside.

And BTW, the thing making the sound is the EXACT SAME BEEPER that makes a noise if you don't put your seatbelt on. Do you think that is for the benefit of those outside the car too! Do you think that the purpose of the seat belt beeper is that so someone outside the car may hear it and then alert you that you've forgotten to put on you seat belt. Perhaps your neighbour might stick his head out of the window and call out to you to use a seatbelt. It really must be a funny old world that you live in!

In my climate, I wipe at least that many times each winter month. And in certain conditions, such as driving out of an inversion, that first wipe isn't enough because the mirror re-fogs while driving.

Been there, did that, got my answer.

What were your test results? Aftermarket mods are common enough that your's could be different.
