There is no expectation of privacy while in public. If that were true most all home videos at Disneyland, Grand Canyon, etc would be illegal if there are people in the background. Think about the evening news on location, or coverage at a ballgame, there are plenty of people in the background being shown on broadcast television and they don't all give consent.

Correction: video that includes audio, requires express consent, otherwise it is called eavesdropping. For kicks, you should really take the time to read the fine print on back of your amusement park tickets. If you really wanna test your bravado, you can just go ahead and see just how much police like being recorded with or without legal consent!

I just came back from an incident, where I had 600+ feet at a stop sign to turn right into the lane. The speed limit on the road I was turning into is 35mph. After I made the turn onto the road, the car came barreling into the lane of the opposing traffic over the double yellow line at about 45mph just missing a head on collision.

You betcha, if the guy had a "head on" that I would have turned over the video to the police.

If you had a head on at 45mph the camera would be toast.

So what. It won't be needed any more.

The valuable part is stored inside the flash memory cards, which have survived far worse.

My brother, who is a lawyer, early in his law career once soap boxed for considerable time about how all the "rights" that amusement parks have you agree to abandon upon admission were unconstitutional.

I tended to think my brother was just showing off...and being a jerk.
An amusement park is a physical interactive experience.

And quite frankly if I'm riding on the high speed ride that spins everyone? I don't want he guy across from me to have a loose pocket knife in his jeans. I don't care if you can make the argument that legally he should be allowed to have it.

My brother went through a period where he enjoyed reading the fine print to everything and then carrying on for hours about how wrong it was. Including Amusement Park entry agreements and tickets.

I just want to go on the roller coaster. I'll take my chances.

i always wondered what personality type liked that kind of law. otoh, i do want the park to bear some responsibility for making sure the rides are safe and operating properly, with regular testing and inspections. i never went on the local carnie rides for that reason.

Unless you were presented with and signed a contract, any posted notice or notice on an admission ticket has no effect on your ability to take legal action against a venue for public access.

You might, however, need to litigate.

If the unknowing individual though that disclaimers written on a sign or an admission ticket had the effect of a contract and goes no further or pursue damage, then it has the definite "effect of law" in that individual's case.

Problem with Austin is panhandling is not against the law so they do it everywhere. There is no KNOWN homeless population here, they are everywhere.

This is what the police tweeted out.
6 pedestrian fatalities have occurred in ATX this year. If you see someone in a roadway, call 911. http://ow.ly/KBZhT #ArriveAlive

I am on the fence about purchasing the Magellan Roadmate 6230-LM GPS/Dash Cam 2 in 1 to replace my aging Garmin. It seems like a good idea and the product has very good reviews. What do you guys think?

Oh, my brother is cool. But early in his law "learnin" days he would take every chance to show off his new found knowledge.

And most of the time, I was like "OK Perry Mason, sign the release and let's go ride the coaster".

He's out grown that reaction to every public venue.....thank god.

The amusement parks and ride operators have got around the sign on the wall or the disclaimer on the ticket which does not have the "effect" of a signed contract.

With the advent of computer software and the clicking of the "I agree" button on the screen, clicking on that "I agree" button has the effect of signing a contract.

There are now computer terminals that take your credit card or your cash and issue that "ticket" but will not, if you click "I disagree."

"Faux" News (or is it Vaux or Ersatz?) gets it right once in a while?

For me, I don't do social media web sites.

Also, I consider any email content and a "public disclosure."

    1st...
I'm a noob... just got a Prius V and just joined. NEVER EVER would have considered owning a Prius before but lifestyles change and it was now more practical and logical.
    2nd..
    In reference to dash-cams...
I had a Mini 0805 w/ GPS hardwired into a 2010 CRV just behind rear view for a few months. Seemed to work fine and luckily I never "needed" it.
Traded the CRV in on a 2015 Prius V-5 and before I handed the Honda off I removed the cam setup.
I plan re-installing it in the V but it should be much easier. I am thinking I can tap off some of the leads going to the Homelink in the rear view. An ignition power would be ideal but I haven't cracked it open to get an idea yet. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
    3rd...
From scanning over this thread its seems very evident that Kenarto is coming from a perspective that is different than other folks posting here. Although I greatly disagree it's not necessarily a wrong perspective.
Yep... many states differ on auditory and visual recording laws but near all lay out the idea what is inherently private and public. A dash-cam within someone's private vehicle videotaping exterior public images would easily fall into being legal. There's no expectation of privacy while someone is in a public place. The gray area comes to reproduction, presenting/displaying, and receiving monetary gain. Then there is the gray area of if an individual causing an vehicular accident constitutes a "performance" by an "entertainer."
As for me I am only looking to protect my personal, private property and well-being. SO my camera will be rolling without shame whenever possible. My take is similar to conceal handgun owner philosophy. Ideally people treat each other with respects with regards to property and rights... and you hope you never NEED utilize it that resource. If you do need to use it, it should be used carefully and judiciously. Obviously the risks and dangers aren't equivalent.

There's a recent thread here on just that subject, a decent how-to, with pictures. I tried finding it without success, but it's in the last couple of months I think.
