Maybe all that ugliness is needed to cover up whatever Toyota had to do to improve the new small overlap crash protection standard. I wonder if the new trend on modding Toyota's will be to replace the ugly front end to something more presentable like ground effects of the 90's or the fast and the furious racing spoilers of the 00's

If a nice smooth shiny front is easier to get bugs off - we better all get one of these
    ;)

No honey comb here - I'm thinking that these should be pretty easy to wipe down ~

Funny Ford did nearly identical change to 2015 Connect, but it doesn't look as ugly as Toyo Prius C job:

My problem with the Lexus (and now the creep into Toyota) is that the cars look like they've been in an accident before even being driven off the lot.

But just THINK of all those pennies they save in reduced paint costs! </s>

we don't have this problem - front plates mandatory.

IMHO while they're very similar Ford has more balanced proportions wit smaller lower grill and higher upper slit. Connect looks human, "C" like an ugly deep water fish.

The Ford in this photo has 3 separate grill openings!

I don't know if others have done this, but here is what I would do: (and no, it's not photoshopped--I used a magic marker.)

These new and ugly Lexus and Toyota front ends make a good case for buying a vinyl car bra, and not just for the extra bugs they will keep off the grill/paint. Similarly, lipstick can't help a pig too much either.

What can you do, when everyone's marching to a different drummer, and they're calling the shots. ;(

There looked to be about 30 or so Prius v lounging around for sale at Fremont Toyota, a very large dealer. Think that's a lot? I'd say there's about 120 Prius liftbacks hanging around for sale. They are piling up on the lot.

Corollas and Camrys, maybe 40 or 50 each, so those are selling well, but Prius liftback, oh no.

It could be b/c people are holding out for Gen4 to come out. Even if you buy Gen3 it still makes sense to wait and get better deal.

IMHO Toyota shot themselves in the foot on this one.

Tells me something about the 3rd gen Prius (um ... it has its flaws) that so many people would hang out and wait 10 months to get something they have no idea will look like or cost. I'm seeing $5k discounts on Prius Three in newspaper teaser ads.
Looks like ShinyToys is not going to get a Prius cause base seat hurts his back. I'll be loooking around for a lumbar support solution also.

They don't. They just go and buy different car. Corolla, Hyundai, Mazda name it.

The ones who want a Prius and can wait may wait

Conventional wisdom says don't buy last year model unless you plan to keep it long time. So the people who buy them are the ones looking for best possible deal?
@cycledrum do you think prices on leftover Gen3 will be higher or lower in August?

Lower, but Toyota 101 was ad'ing Prius Threes, 5 at that price, for over $5k discount. I think Threes might be the most popular trim.
