If your car was Toyota certified at a Toyota dealership could it ever lose its certification?

There are 2 types of certification on a Toyota used car, one is certified by the dealership selling it, and one is certified as a national Toyota certification.

You have to know which one you are buying, as the dealership certification usually is good for repairs at that dealership only and not honored nationally.

As for your question, not really sure what you're asking.

I bought my prius with a 3 year maintenance free and 4 year 48k warranty and iirc the battery has 100k warranty. The car salesman said the vehicle wasn't certified by Toyota. I checked the carfax and the carfax says the vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealership and certified by toyota. The car was then taken to a courtesy Kia dealership. I bought the car from Courtesy Toyota. Courtesy Toyota also owns the courtesy Kia which is next door. The carsalesman said the vehicle was moved to courtesy Kia and says since it was at that lot it isn't certified.

You can easily check with a Toyota dealership to see if there's a warranty on the car. BTW, the 8 year/100k HV battery is a national warranty.....free of charge. If you are in a CARB state, that warranty is good for 10 years or 150k miles......also free of charge.

If this was once purchased as a "certified used vehicle" and it carries a 100k miles warranty, it would still carry that warranty. They would have records of it.......if it doesn't show up as having a warranty, it was never a certified used vehicle.

It was taken to Toyota on 10/01/2014 with 51,718 and certified by them. It was then moved to Courtesy Kia on 01/06/2015 with 51,730. I went to Courtesy Toyota a few days ago and bought it. It was listed on their website. The salesman went to the lot next door at Courtesy Kia(which he said is owned by Courtesy Toyota) and brought it to Courtesy Toyota lot where I bought it with 51,735 miles iirc.

    merged

Even the vehicle history report for the vehicle says its toyota certified. I think he was wrong. Not saying he was lying, but I think he gave me the wrong info.

A Toyota certified vehicle is essentially a Toyota used car that has a long warranty. No real difference between a certified car and not certified car. The certified car usually costs more than non certified because of the extra warranty coverage.

Sounds like you didn't buy a certified used car......but if you did, the warranty would show up at the Toyota Dealer's service computers.

that's excellent. you wouldn't likely get that with a non certified car. that's what certified means, they are warrantying beyond the original manufacturers warranty.
