Installed TRD "Prius Plus" springs

    The amount of slop in the bolts equating to .5 degree of camber. I don't agree so asking if that .5 degree is based on numbers from rack or personal assessment?

    Between the knuckle to strut bolts and the top hat bolts there is easily 1/2 degree camber adjustment. The top hat bolts alone allow for the strut to slide 1/8 - 3/16 of an inch along a horizontal field. The knuckle to strut bolts allow for about a 1/16 of rotational movement equating to probably .1 - .2 degrees.

    Ask yourself this... All these people that go in to get an alignment done, how do you think the shop is adjusting camber in the front. Those are the only two locations that have slop that can be "adjusted". Most places won't go through the hassle to losen up the top hats and once they see that the knuckle to strut bolt holes are not oblonged they won't bother adjusting camber period. Thus you end up with the same camber you started with and thats why I explained earlier it's best to set it at equal extremes before you go in unless you know the guy running the racks ability.

    Simple, they don't adjust the camber in the front. Though you can use that slop for that camber but I certain alignment shops won't use that method to do it. Maybe "crash bolts" if needed. Also, isn't the tolerance around +/- .8? So .5 won't help much. From my experience, I don't see camber start having wear issues till it's more than 2.5 degrees. Forgot to note that this is for the Prius with Plus spring. From all the post I've read, only toe was adjusted.

    I'm not sure where you are going with that, yeah the tolerances are really loose and yes most shops will only adjust toe upfront and whatever the byproduct camber change through the slight toe adjustment "is what it is". But that does not mean camber can't be set to be the same left to right and set and a specific point, nor does it mean a quality alignment shop shouldn't make an effort (or the installer for that matter) to set the car to as exact as they can.

    Maybe you’re okay with "within tolerance" but I personally like it exact. Yes it will take a substantial amount of camber to effect wear (usually a combination of camber and toe) but .5 degrees is actually a really big deal to some people. When I set my race car up for drag racing we would measure how much the car would "get up" on the tire and lift the front suspension (FWD) and then we would actually lift the chassis that much on the alignment rack and set the cars camber and toe to exactly 0.0 at that lifted amount. For my car specifically that meant with the car settled -0.5 camber and -0.02 toe resting. But going down the 1/4 mile my suspension would then be tuned to my desired 0.0 all around. Thus .5 degrees was a big deal.

    I always avoid crash bolts… seen too many of them fail.

    I'm saying that's a preference and not a requirement. Do you do your alignment loaded and you in the car as well? As that will also alter camber as well. For most of us here in this car, it's not for performance reasons. Not worth chasing in my book.

    For those with TRD springs on stock struts, how is the lowered height treating your struts? I know there was one member here that had noticed premature wear after 15k miles. I was ready to lower the car today, but have decided to hold out for now.

    I've ridden and swapped a lot of suspensions before and the plus springs are pretty mild. A good comparison with be a BMW sport suspension vs non.

    Life's short! Live a little. Far from risky IMHO.

    There ya go! read most if not all the post, I think I have yet to come across anyone saying negative things after installing them... worse case, swap it back..

    I just ordered mine on Amazon (no shipping cost w/ Prime). With tax the total comes out to $238.18 which beats the toyotapartspeople.toyotaofpuyallup.com price of $257.50 (includes shipping & no tax) by a few bucks.

    I know what I'm doing this weekend. :)

    I still wonder if the TRD springs are a little less drop than the Eibach springs. I have the Hibachis now but it sure seems low with them. I would honestly like a little less drop as the curbs and steep angles of some parking areas are taking a toll.

    Okay, Amazon didn't pack the springs very well. And UPS lost three of them in route.
    Also, the total price I mentioned above is incorrect. The correct ToyotaPartsPeople price is $214 ($184 + $30 shipping).
    I processed a return with Amazon and I'm placing a new order with toyotapartspeople.toyotaofpuyallup.com.

    I got a quote from dealership for set of trd springs installed at $1,1000+ taxs he told me it take all day and some LOL! Rented a compressor for 15 bucks and did all 4 in 2 1/2 hrs. 1 inch drop is like having 4 people in the car! Track straight as a arrow down the road . I recheck tire wear in a few hundred miles. With the springs, cusco frt sway and lower frt brace on 17 inch wow this is a different beast!

    Are 2010 suspensions different than the rest of 3rd gen? I put in the part # and it only lists matches for 2011-2015.

    hy guys,

    I just purchase one of these TRD Plus spring kit, and in the instruction, they speak about adding spring spacer, but for PORT PROCESSING ONLY;

    Someone know what they want to say? these spacers are necessary or not?
