My MFD has stopped working properly,
    Here's the scenario.
I first noticed something amiss several months ago when just touching the fan speed would not work at first, but after repeated pressings it would change.
I thought maybe the screen "just needs to heat up" or something like that.
Then I went on a 2 month trip recently (chronicled here:
    Dead | PriusChat)

and now the MFD does not respond at all or in a crazy fashion.
If I am in radio settings and touch a preset on the left side, the right side preset setting gets activated.
Fan speeds dont respond at all, nor do most other functions.
All is still controllable from steering wheel.
But seems like I can not turn heater on or off.
I can turn A/C on or off and adjust temperature setting from there, but A/C light stays on.

I took it to dealer for battery issue quoted above and they threw out $1400 to replace MFD.
    Of course I declined.
    Basic info:
Its a 2009 Prius Two with 46,000 miles.
Any comments, feedback, or best way to handle, remedy situation.
    I live near Ventura, CA

I've researched this a bit and discovered, like many, that failure of the MFD is common.
Is anyone aware of a procedure where the stock MFD is not replaced, but something like an iPad mini is installed or retrofitted giving the same and even more functionality than the original MFD?

    Thanks.
    I'm aware of that.
I was more wondering about replacing/retrofitting the stock MFD with something like an iPad or iPad mini or some other tablet that would offer additional functionality

I have had the same problem with mine. Mine is a 2008, along with you I have control from the steering wheel but that doesn't control the difference between the heat and the AC. This has happened a few times now. What I have been able to do to fix in the past is run my finger all along the very edge of the screen all the way around. It seems to do a reset. This has worked before ( 4 times now) but not working this time. It really sucks. If Toyota knows about this then there should be a really.
