For ICE cars, cleaning the engine parts are getting more and more important with direction injunction being part of the design. Gunk build out is seen for cars with only 50k miles.

For a Prius, I doubt there is much in there at 30k miles. By the time 100k miles comes around, you do not want to do the cleaning any ways. Cleaning the ICE in the Prius at that point might create new leaks.

A poster on the old Gassaver site had an Escort with over 500k miles on it.

Side note, we had a 2000 Corolla LE but it was traded for a 2002 Camry XLE. That generation of Corolla (1998-2002) was one of the last great ones before accountants took over the development. It had 4-wheel independent suspension, soft-touch vinyl/plastics and pretty good features for its class (outside temperature gauge, CD player, illuminated ignition keyhole, digital odometer/trip odometer, dual vanity mirrors, card holder in visor, adjustable cupholders, rear cupholders, fabric covered centre console lid [LE only] and retractable overhead assist grips). 2000-2002 versions had VVT-i added so there's a hp bump from 120-125 and similarly bump in torque (122-126).

Traded in yes but before 999999. The dealer kept the car and has been putting on some km to have it reach the 999999. They hit that a couple of days ago.

that generation of corolla has a well deserved reputation for burning oil. and the odometer maxes out only at 299,999 km (or miles).

The 1ZZ engine? It's also used in the Celica GT. Any reports of using oil in that application?

Yeah but as the article showed, it maxed out at 999,999km.

yes, the 1ZZ-FE engine made 1998-2002. The 2003 and newer had no problems.
my bad about the 299,999 km. that effected the 9th gen (2003-2008) corolla and 2004-2009 prius as well.

i assume it was a built in obsolescence.

revised pistons and oil rings. the pistons had more oil holes to increase oil circulation and rings has some more chromium surface treatment to make them harder.

Interesting. Thanks! It's amazing the little updates that manufacturers do but they're not mentioned (maybe except in the repair manual). Granted, most people won't care for these details. I posted in another thread about the differences in the PCS performance in the IIHS test for 2013-2014 Prius v compared to the 2015 Prius v.

well, they like to keep it quiet, so lawyers would not hear about those little flaws of design. but, sometimes the problems are too big to keep under wraps: Toyota Excessive Engine Oil Consumption Class Action Lawsuit

    Ouch!
Reminds me of the tsb on our 06 hybrid Lexus inverter/coolant/hardware ... failures galore ... then well after the fact, a tsb. Then there was the "pulling to the right" alignment tsb issue ..... and the cloudy headlight fogging tsb.... BAHH! don't get me started ....

Or the steering wheel recall on the Gen 2, then the shaving of the accelerator pedal and then adjusting the braking software.
