I was hoping not to have 2 threads going, but I guess this is going to be a hot topic. It is nice that the Toyota Team let us be the first to hear. Although I do not own a PiP, I have been supportive.

PIP RIP! (at least for now)

Unless they increase the range by a lot (i.e. Chevy Volt territory) the PiP2 won't sell very many.

A forthcoming body style would be more likely like the "MIRAI" and late Lexus line. Taking in consideration of the Japanese market, because Toyota designs their product for their local market and then adapt this ones to world wide use, the EV range will not be much bigger or options thereof for sales support.
It could include a wimpy line voltage converter with an output of 120VAC, a cheap built in accessory that will attract future customers.
A very possible MPG improvement of at least 5 MPG due to engine tweaking.
Will never see an ALL wheel drive on this Prius line.
Will never see a pneumatic suspension for improved drag coefficient at higher speeds.
Will never see a better Entune; currently a crappy system.
Will never see a factory installed DVR system.

    EDIT:
The improvements will have to be a "heavyweight fighter" for Toyota to remain in the Plug-In market and for me to continue brand leadership. Currently there are better equipped vehicles on the road today.

Both Volt2 and PiP2 have a huge issue: loss of their No. 1 market (no more CA green HOV stickers). I am trying to figure out if Volt2 has a shot at coming to market soon enough to grab a few green stickers. Possibly CA expands the HOV program for Volt2 but leaves current PiP1 out I suppose. Since incentives are battery-size based, PiP2 needs bigger batt just to grab incentives.

Nissan's plugin is supposedly going from 85 to 200 miles. Over 200% improvement. Would it be too much to think the PiP will increase EV range to 25 miles?

25 miles (40 km) is a worthy goal.

I agree, 25 EV miles will be good, 30 or 40 will be THE goal !!!

Don't forget how high of a priority cost is.

If the configuration isn't affordable (profitable without tax-credit), achieving high-volume sales won't be realistic.

i don't know if 30 or 40 miles is really going to sell the new pip. and are people who don't use that kind of ev very often going to be willing to pay for it?

most work commutes are easily under 30 miles. A traction pack of that smaller size keeps overall weight down, while still getting the average commuter to work on electrons with a not too much more costly battery.

20 Amps L2 charger and 60 min charge time.
Liquid cooling of battery that can also be triggered during charging?
At least 40 Ah auxiliary battery.
