Hi Over the weekend. I went to remove the front dealer license plate and guess what I discovered. On the new 2015 Prius v the same front bumper is a 2 piece design grill. Check out the license plate scratch/indentation. So the plate holder bracket has 4 holes. 2 to screw the brackets to the grill and 2 to hold the plate to the bracket. But they over tighten it with the power drill. Can owners of 2015 let me know if they have the same scratch? I am in the process of asking my dealer to help me with replacement/repair. But chances are low. Wish me luck. Look above the pink tape to see the scratches. Sean
If the front plate California issues will cover the damage I would just get it touched up. If the plate does not cover the damage, then push the issue to get the bumper resprayed, realizing that often a respray is not exactly the same in all lighting, especially on a plastic bumper.
The dealer won't do anything. The marks are from the bolts/screws used to hold the license plate to the holder. It's only an issue because you removed everything.
The real problem is the screws provided by Toyota for the plate, which are too long and dig into the bumper cover. Same thing happened here. A dollop of paintable silicone in each hole, covered with touchup paint will all but make them vanish.
Assuming the dealer installed the plates in a transfer and you didn't do it when you got it home... If the screws in the front license plate kit are so long they allow this to happen, it is Toyota's fault. The dealer should make it right. That includes a loaner while the car is in the shop. The current generation of plastic bumpers can be brought back to life in amazing ways such that you can never tell. And perfect paint matches are possible. I've seen them in the absolutely most difficult colors to match.
Thanks for responding guys. I am just hoping for the best as long as they can somewhat do something or work with me. I would be a happy camper. Yes california law a require front plate. On my Lexus I have never had it since it got it 9 years ago, never been pulled over for it. As a matter of fact no holes of plates ever been mounted. So I have been very fortunate with that car. mikefocke, I agree with your assumption about the screws. But I won't expect the dealer to give me loaner car. As a matter of fact I even offer them that I would remove the grill myself to help them out.
Rdgrimes, you described the scratch exactly how it happened. Anyhow, a few weeks ago the dealer finally helped me out. I was very lucky, the dealer gave me a new front grill, not bumper (2015 front bumper is 2 piece). It took them awhile but they did it to make customer happy. and I'm extremely happy that they did. Kudos to Longo Toyota in El Monte, CA.
Yes you are right that California require front license plate. But if you are in CA, you will see a lot of car enthusiastic owners don't have front license plate especially Luxury cars and sport cars. Yes some police will ticket you for it, its a fix-it ticket. But you should google search for show and go electric power license plate. It pretty cool.
