I managed to get the Bluetooth on my phone (a Samsung Galaxy S5, with Android Lollipop) connected to my 2008 Prius without any trouble. Several times I've tried to go through the steps in the car's owners manual to download my phonebook. However whenever I get to the final step, it will act as if it's transferring data (as far as the screen display matches what the photo in the manual displays when the data is transferring) - however the moment that screen display comes on, the phone actually *disconnects* from the car. If I hit "cancel" to cancel the transfer, it automatically reconnects. I'm afraid the phone technology is too new for a 2008 car ... but thought I'd check in just in case someone else had solved this problem.

Any help much appreciated - manual entry of text on the car's screen is way too time consuming!!

OK I did manage to figure this out today. And set up voice dialing for frequently called people. However the system is horrible at voice recognition when I'm trying to call someone. Thinking I'm going to have to include last names of everybody hoping that might help. The quality of Bluetooth over my phone with my Bose earpiece in is so superior to the car's system, though, that I'll probably only use it when I don't have the Bose or it's out of charge.

Can you elaborate on what you figured out. I have read a lot of questions on this, but never any answers.

Did you record a voice tag for each name? I believe you need to do this to make VR work well.

Funny, I found the quality (both in and out) very good in my 2006 Prius. There are setting in the B/T menu where you can adjust volume and sensitivity, etc. Have you tried those?

Yes, I recorded voice tags. But nevertheless the system confuses names. I will see if I can play around with the settings. I think it's just that the Bose earpiece I've been using is such high quality, nobody knows I'm on Bluetooth (and listening to music through it is incredible as well). Using the car's system people say I sound like I'm on a speakerphone. But they generally hear ok (I haven't tested it out with my elderly parents yet though!), and I can hear them ok.

As far as transferring phone book info, the one step that the owner's manual leaves out is *exporting* the info from the phone. I don't know how it would work in your phone, but for mine I went into the Phone app, selected the contacts list, then (using either the menu button, to the left of the Home button on my phone, or the app's menu button that looks like a 3-dotted colon symbol), choose "select" then select the contacts whose info you want transferred. Then hit the "share" symbol, and select Bluetooth (make sure you have the car & phone connected first, and you've gotten to the point in the car's phonebook transfer process that it's ready to accept the data). Bingo. Other than a few duplicate contacts it worked great for me.

    Hope it works for you!

I'm going to state the obvious, so please forgive me if you're already doing this, but you have recorded unique voice tags, haven't you? If you have three Johns in your contacts, e. g., you would need to make them different so you might record one as John Doe, another as John from Napa and the last as John from work. You don't need to match what you have in the name field in the contact, so you can just leave them as simply John, if you like.

I'm fairly sure I can't do it that way, but now that I know the principle, I may be able to adapt it.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, I am using unique voice tags. Even so, when I said "Nicola" the system brought up "Jessica" (more than once), "Van" (!!) and a few other people as well.

Also, several times I've received incoming calls from people in my phone book - but the screen doesn't display who's calling. Is there a setting I need to go to somewhere?

    TIA everyone!
