I had a 12v battery issue that I see common on this forum. 12V battery does not crank car. Jump car and works fine for a few days. I had this issue and it went away. Dealer said replace 12v battery, or just carry my charger pack with and use that unless it gets worse.
Jump ahead 2 months. I drive 50 miles each way to work 5 days a week. No issues. Yesterday, after my car sitting all day, I am backing out of driveway and get the red triangle. Code was P0A80. I looked it up. I cleared the code and was going to dealer if it came back. Today, after driving 50 miles into work, no issues, I get the red triangle. Code P3021. Fan started running back there too :(

    My questions are:
Would replacing the 12v battery help this issue? (would it have helped 2 months ago?)

After reading on here, I see that cell/block replacement is 50/50 shot. Looking for advice.

**New here. 2006 Prius gen II w/ 320k miles. Never had any real issues. (water pump/oil chg/ tires/radiator valve)

I think you had a very good run with your car, now at 320k and no real issues.

Replacing the 12v won't do anything, the HV battery is just worn after all those miles and need replacement. Replacing a single failed module is not recommended since your battery pack has so many miles on it, other's that haven't failed will fail soon after.

I would try and get another used battery pack from a wrecked car.......or possibly take advantage of the great deals going on with the new 2015 closeout models

Seeing that a new 2015 is not in my budget, any recommendations on where to get a refurbished battery? Or Should I just pony up for a new one at the dealer?

The new battery would be a good choice but given your car has 300,000+ miles, the battery should outlast the car. But I guess if anything, if you save the receipt, you can resell the battery for half price if your car were to break later.

I'll take a free battery and a car wash. For ONE commercial, of course.

i wish i had good advice for you. at your mileage, a new battery is way overpriced for what you're going to be spending on the rest of the car down the road. and there are no guarantees on rebuilts. some are having decent success, and others are failing quickly.

    Bisco & JC9016,
How about this theory? Would the fact my 12v battery was bad, pull from the HV to stay charged? Thus causing my HV issue?

It doesn't matter what theory or cause....it's just worn out now.

Should I just park it or is it safe to drive for a day or two?

you can try and reset it by disconnecting the 12v negative for a few seconds......driving it in this failed condition can get you into limp mode when it fails. That would limit you to only local street driving, not highway speeds.
