Are you getting gas at the same place? Does it happen every time you gas up?

I ask because I've not seen this happen, BUT there was the occasion where the "auto shutoff" was very twitchy at the station I happened to be at...forcing me to pump the gas manually and slowly.

I think some places make the pumps run too fast, and it creates the very conditions that triggers the pump to shut off THINKING the tank is almost full.

If you find yourself in this situation, turn the pump upside down, trigger on top, works every time.

Same here: once in a long while I'll get a touchy pump, say a single pump at one station, where it's shut-off prone. Just baby it and it's ok. Not sure what happens, maybe the mechanism clogs or something? But pretty rare occurrence.

I've had it happen twice recently, on my 2012 Prius II, once at COSTCO and once at a Chevron. At the Chevron I backed the nozzle out as far as I could and put it on the slowest flow notch.
