    Wow, I missed a couple messages :).

Thanks for all of the help. I think there is some confusion that when I bought this car (used), I was provided with a US owners manual. Some of the terms, obviously, were used incorrectly, and I now realize there are some major differences other than just the side that has the steering wheel.

So as an update, and conclusion, I found out my problems. I purchased another key on eBay, but had some difficulties while going through the chicken dance. My 7 year old son sat in the passenger seat to help. Once we gave up, he opened his door, and I noticed that the open door indicator lit up. I never had it light up with the driver side door. We found the door sensor, removed it, cleaned up the contact and reinstalled it. I was able to complete the chicken dance successfully this time, and additionally, my originally remote started working again.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions and help. I am back where I started, but at least I have a backup (non-SKS) key!

    Pete.
The main differences with the UK and UK Prius are listed below. There are others, but these are the main ones:-

The UK version does not have a bladder in the fuel tank. (thank goodness)
It has rear disc brakes with drums for the parking brake as against the US with single drums.
The US version has a thermos container to save the hot coolant from the engine and return it for faster warm ups. Again the UK version has none of this including the pumps and control valves that control all this. (thank goodness).
Non of the UK gen2 Prius have the smart key entry system. (a great pity)
The UK Prius does not have heated door mirrors something they do get in Florida, (go figure)
Non of the UK gen2 Prius get HID headlamps as fitted with some options in the US.
All UK gen2 Prius come as standard with 16 inch wheels only fitted to the touring version in the US.
