As I stated before, Yakoma just did, and I will state again, check and clean the cooling fan. A clogged fan will cause battery to overheat. Could have been the culprit of the failed battery to begin with. If it's clean, we can continue on with help.

Just wanted to post a quick follow up. I really appreciate everyone's responses to my initial post. I took a lot of that feedback to heart and decided against going with a random Craigslist installer... ultimately I went with Greentec, I did the remanufactured battery with the 18 month warranty. They offered me $100 off the $200 installation price so that sealed the deal. Got it done last weekend. Unfortunately my MFD is also faulty so I'm not sure how to tell whether or not the battery is charging properly... it goes in and out (the MFD) but when I pulled away from Greentec it was working momentarily and the battery appeared to be charging, though I never saw the battery display go over 4 bars. But again without it working consistently (the MFD) hard to say for sure. So, I'll follow up... or I guess more realistically I won't if everything goes smoothly, or I will if there's an issue.

now, to deal with the dodgy MFD... ugh this car.

Conversely, for those that have had negative experiences with GreenTec, it would be helpful if they posted their honest reports here as well. It would help protect others.

Any updates on your Greentec battery? Mine just died at 358k. I am looking to buy the one with the 3rd generation cells. They have a 36 months warranty on them.
