ahhhhh gotcha. So I could do all the stuff in the service manual that calls for that Toyota diagnostic. That would be awesome!

well, there's a leak somewhere. Jumpered pressure switch, charged to 35psi low side, it leaked back down by this morning. I think it is in the line where the low pressure connection is. I can hear it hissing if I can get surroundings really quiet.

Does anybody know if that is fairly easy to replace? I figured I would just start replacing what lines I can, starting with that one.

Is it a leaking line or is the leak at the condenser located in front of the radiator? The latter would be the most likely place for a leak to appear.

It sounds like the suction line but you may be right. I may just take it in to have it diagnosed. I'm loathe to put any dye in myself as i know it'll have to be drained and refilled with oil. Will I have to replace dryer as well since it is a decent leak.

The dryer is an integral part of the condenser, I believe.

Can you use a little soapy water to locate the leak? (Like testing fittings on a natural gas hookup.)

If you put in UV dye when filling it you should now see clearly where it leaked with UV light.

I posted another thread (since it is specifically a question about condenser), but wanted to post here as well:

I've determined that my condenser is leaking (has attached drier). Already ordered denso replacement and am planning to work on this weekend.

I purchased two cans of the interdynamics hybrid r134a (that supposedly has .5 ounce of oil in each can).

The prius takes about 16 oz of refrigerant, so basically like 1.33 cans., yielding a little under .7 oz of oil.

Is this sufficient? Or do i need more oil since drier is being replaced? My understanding is that most of the oil would remain in the compressor and I would be adding too much if I were to add back more than that.

Hoping somebody might know the answer. I have vacuum pump and gauges on order.

Also, can I use nylog on o-rings or just regular ester oil?

    Thanks,
    Tom
