that's a huge issue, 30k net would be incredible, 40k will make a lot of people reconsider.

The target for the Model 3 is $35k before rebates. It'll be tough. In Canada, that'll be close to the base price of the entry luxury (junior executive) cars such as the IS, A3 Quattro, C-Class, 3 Series and ATS.

so if their plugin accord was too expensive, rather than drop the price, they'd rather rely on a more expensive slower accelerating - pathetic infrastructure fuel cell car to replace it. Great plan.

I don't think dropping the price is a solution. If you read the sonata comparison blurb the honda battery is 47 wh/kg, versus 67 wh/kg panasonic in the ford energi, and 75 wh/kg lg lithium polymer in the sonata. That makes the honda battery the heaviest, even though the sonata gets an estimated epa aer of 24 miles and a bigger trunk than accord phev with a 13 mile epa all electric range. Honda is more efficient than the ford and Hyundai phevs, but who really cares if you have to burn more gas to get where you are going. My guess is they need to switch battery suppliers from gs yuasa and do a whole new design to be competitive. Panasonic, LG, Tesla, and Samsung all seem to be doing better on batteries. fusion energi can go 80 mph on electricity, sonata phev 75 mph, but accord only 65 mph.

The review of the hybrid system in the accord has been positive. There you may be able to get sales up with price cuts once gas prices start to rise.

Seems like honda has been spending or wasting a lot of time on fuel cells as you said. I hope their next phev is better.
