    I recently got a 2004 Prius, with package 5 I'm told;

    1) Anyone know how to disable the driver's side auto electric window function? I so hate
having to fight with it to get it to stop at the right height (Why does Toyota put it there, why not have it the same as the other three electric window switches?)

    2) Anyone know how to hack the telephone keypad lockout so I can enter numbers while the car is moving. All the great features of my car are useless as I can't access them without pulling over to the side of the road!

On the drivers window switch, you should feel two detents you push it down. If the switch is worn out, you may not feel this, but you can control it by reversing its direction quickly. The reason why its there is for tollway booths, express down and express up for quick window operation.
There is a way to hack the phone, but it recommends adding a temporary switch. After 6mph, the numbers gray out. There is a wire that you can add the switch for fooling the car into thinking its at stop.
Coastal may have this available, called a Lock Pick.Check the net and see if they have it. Good luck.

My wife hates that window switch too. She just can't get the feel of the two detents. I've never had a problem with it and that drives her nuts, too.

I understand express down but ecpress up is very different. Ome vehicle we had actually had two switches for the express and regular.
We will never see this again, cost cutting measures. Our TCH does have separate switches for the sunroof. One does open/close auto and the other is for tilt up/down auto. It would be nice if they could do it for the windows, too.

Toyota is not so gently recommending that you put your contacts into the system ahead of time. You can pick a contact while moving.

Well, yeah, they don't want a lawsuit. I had an iPhone 4s and could not get my contacts into my car ( apple doesn't support that kind of push). My Android does, and the contacts went in just fine.

I don't think you should enter numbers while the car is moving. That is distracted driving and someone could get hurt.

Well they could make a system where it would be out of the reach of the driver, like on the passenger's side foot area. Before a function could be unlocked, there would need to be a button that's pressed by the passenger's foot before the function can unlock. You can make it so that this function is only available when the car is in (D)rive without the brakes pressed (has to be moving). It would need to be pressed every time you want to unlock it after 1 selection. That way the driver can't do this by pretending to be a passenger while the car is in park and disable the system.

How many weeks would you give until a 'virtual passenger' went on sale ?

The passenger has to do something. It's not a dead weight that can slap on a seat belt. But yes, things can get bypassed

well virtual passenger installations would become the driver's liability if things were to go wrong, not the manufacturers anymore

    Perhaps directly, although IANAL.

You seem to underestimate the American ability to blame anyone else but themselves, and of course the media would be pumping out stories of the spike in Toyota accidents.

The window switch is the same on every new car, maybe you just need to practice using it.

My wife struggles with it to. It boggles my mind as its operation is the same in her current and previous car. What makes the Prius switch so sensitive? Is it the addition of auto up? I had issue with it the first few days and then got used to it.
