After hearing a story of a guy who stopped a dude from car jacking him I want to be able to hide a firearm closer to the driver side. The car owner's car unlocked all door automatically like mine does and the car jacker jumped in the passenger side. If this happened to me I'd be screwed unless I had a gun on my person already because my gun is usually in the glove box.

Grabbed an old holster and tried on the door which works but it's such a tight space and is visible to others each time I open my door. If I move it forward and take the water bottle out then it's more visible to anyone looking in.

Tried the lower center console which looks ok but has issues. Will need to have stuffing or something behind it to keep it out front like pictured. Also a tight space so have pull the gun out at a odd angle, etc.

Little cubby below the stereo is pretty much useless for this.

My best thought is to somehow cut slits in the plastic and run stretchy material to act like a strap holster under the arm rest. It would be hidden under the fabric covering it.

Which is safer , Pointing forward or backward?

PLEASE be constructive in your comments. Don't care about your gun control opinions or what you think the laws are. If you feel like starting a gun argument I comically refer you to this American Dad clip for my reply.:D

Again only comment if it's about places or ways to mount and or better hide a gun for quick access in a Prius.

Gen II accessories.......You would need to consult with Q

You saved yourself from a carjacking, but it'll be hard to sell the Prius with a side of splattered brain on the inside window

This little cubby under the radio can be taken out, leaving you will a much bigger area (not as refined), with a nice tinted door covering it.

Under the arm rest pointing backwards seems like it would be easiest to access. Inside the center console against one of the sides would probably be pretty good, too. Under the lid seems like it would be easier to grab with your left hand, while in the center console hole would be better for right.

I use a small ecosmart (think: netbook size) bag in the co-pilot seat.
With the top zipper open it offers easy access and concealability, and you can change locations if you have a passenger.
If you have a CCP, then all you have to do is zip it up and carry it away with you.
If you're in a nice, safe, gun-free zone, then you'll want to consider stripping and carrying just the receiver in with you sans magazine and slide.
That way you don't have a "gun" with you and when your car gets broken into all the scumbag will get is some pieces/parts. (slide, barrel, mag, etc...) NOT the gun.
One of the principle reasons I have a carry permit is so that I don't have to leave a firearm inside the car, where some thief can add to America's gun problem.

In the sandbox, I qualified with a shoulder rig and a drop leg holster.....each of which I used with some success in white gear (regular POVs instead of tactical rolling stock.)
I liked to shift the drop-leg holster to the top of my thigh while driving, but we used suburban-sized cars in the sandbox and it might be a little tight in a small car.

I dislike shoulder holsters for obvious reasons, but they offer concealability, and in a car they're easier to deal with than a belt rig.

Lastly, some people use box-type containers that are lockable.
I don't like these in Priuses either, because a locked box screams "Valuables Inside!" just like the hundreds of thousands of gun safes and other lockable containers that are easier to get inside than most people realize. They do however, offer fire protection.

    So....
    Your call.

Anything dealing with weapons requires much forethought, and compromise, and you have to find YOUR solution......which will probably be different than one of mine! ;)

    Good Luck!

Where I lived in Georgia, the weapon had to be in plain sight, as in on the dash board, or on the passenger seat. In Maryland... what have a gun/weapon in a car! it better be disassembled, and the parts scattered in separate locations around the vehicle and you must be traveling to or from a gun range. Not sure about Pennsylvania though, I'll have to look that one up...

That's one of the better reasons to just get a CCP.
Reciprocity has gone a looooooong way since I first started carrying, and most states recognize each others licenses.
In a fair and just world, CCP reciprocity would be as simple as they are for other licenses like marriage and driving, but on the other hand in a fair and just world......we wouldn't need hand guns in the first place, and sport shooting would simply be a really really cool hobby. :)

Be careful if you're one of those people that hate LEOs.
If you ever get pulled over, they pretty much run your plates these days and the DMV will tell the officer on scene that you're a CCP holder.
I find this to be a feature rather than a fault, but YMMV.

    Good Luck!

In Texas you give them your CCP with your drivers license when pulled over.

on my 2006, the previous owner had changed out the head unit and removed that cubby. You can see some wires but I'm sure it can be neatly tucked away. I see lots of room under there.

I don't think it is a good idea for the doors to automatically unlock when it is shifted into park.

Ive been thinking about the same thing. I recently bought my 06 Prius and have been looking for places. I have one of these for my Tacoma and love it. Havent taken it off to see if I need to order another for the car

The .380 I carry fits nicely into the bottom of the door I will say but want something a little more convenient

Still haven't found a permanent cool solution. Currently I just use that holster clipped onto a spot that is easy to reach and cover it with a hat when I leave the car.

I've been struggling with this for a while now! I have a carry permit, and prefer to keep my firearm with me at all times; however, there are still a handful of places I sometimes go where I need to leave it in the car to remain legal...and what's worse, I'm a lefty, so I can't just mount something to the center console (which, unlike the interiors I've seen in some of the pictures here, takes up most of the space between the driver and passenger).

I'm mainly looking for somewhere safe to store the firearm while I'm away from the vehicle, however I need to be able to draw from my hip and place it there, and vice versa, without getting out of the car (even stepping out of the vehicle with it on is illegal in some places)...and I can't reach the floorboard or under my seat, as I'm boxed in between the door, steering wheel, and center console. :-/

I don't need to lock it in something (however it's certainly preferable), as locking the vehicle is sufficient to be legal here, but it does have to be "kept from ordinary observation." I've considered modifying the pocket in the door, but I'm unsure how best to do so....does anyone have any ideas to share? :D

Try using a cable lock (maybe the one that came with the weapon) on something like the seat hardware when you're away from the vehicle.
