    Hi all,

My poor Gen II Prius (turning 12 year old in November this year) has experienced some brake problems.
Toyota identified the problem as - Brake Capacitor (part no 8968033010) and Brake Actuator Hydraulic Unit (part no 4450047081).

They quoted A$4500 (approx) to repair. As the car is only worth about A$4000, I'm not willing to fork out that much for the repairs. However, the dealer did mention that if I can source the parts from wreckers they will install for A$444. I think that is reasonable.

I've found a Prius with compatible parts at a wrecker. However, he doesn't really know much about Prii.
Anyway, we've identified the Brake Actuator which I've just paid $330 for. However, we can't identify where the 1st item is, Brake Capacitor.
Has any one here got an idea as to where the part is in the car?

BTW, I've purchased a Gen III 2010 iTech, which is the top of the range here is Australia. Very happy with it. Just would like to get the Gen II on the road to either sell or hand down to a relative.

Besides this problem, the only other problem was the HV battery died a year ago (280,000kms). I bought a replacement from a wrecker for $750 and installed with the help of the information you all have posted on this forum.

I believe it is the black box, approximately 6" X 4" X 2" immediately to the left of the 12V aux battery in the right rear corner of the car.

Thanks for that. I thought it was an inverter.
I'll have look at the part number on it.

Send me a PM and I'll reply with the link. I don't want to overload my server by publishing the link publically on PC.
