    Regarding Battery longevity:

I am looking at a car now:

    2012 Prius plug in
    102k miles
    Color: Sky Blue

Carfax shows it has been regularly maintained at a dealer every 5k miles with a 1 skipped. 1 owner.

How long will this car last? Especially the battery?

I am in Carb state so I believe the battery is covered for 150k miles.

Any mechanical issues I should look at especially at this high milage?

What do you think of the color, sky blue. I think it is kinda unattractive, but considering it.

    Thanks in advance.

well, we don't know, do we. i think the first guy just reached 100k. yes, the hybrid system, including battery are 10/150, if it was first registered in a carb state. i love the sky blue. (that's my color:p)

here are my thoughts: charge it up and see how far it takes you in ev until the engine starts. then, reset trip a or b, and drive another 20 miles under varied conditions to see what it returns for hv milage. keep the radio off and ask the owner to be quiet and listen for unusual sounds. if it passes all that, take it to a dealer for an inspection.

but start with the price, at 100k, it better be right. personally, i think these batteries are gonna last a long time, but i can't prove it. all the best!(y)

Based on what you think about the color, don't buy it!

    Thanks for the tips Bisco!

Yes, this is a 1 owner vehicle recently turned into the dealer about a week ago, so the dealer has it on the lot.

As for taking it out for the spin for 11 miles on EV, I don't know if the salesman would appreciate it. Maybe we can stop at a drive thru and treat him to something while I continue the test drive. Ha ha :p

    Serg,

The color and milage is holding back... Unless it is a deal I can't refuse.

Buying through a dealer because the program I am applying for requires me to which limits my options. :(

It is a horrible selection of cars in calif. The late model used cars are above the brand new car price... Undertaking believable.....

If there is almost no difference in price compared to a regular Prius, I would buy it.
When I bought my toyota-certified last year, dealer gave me a 3-day return/no question asked!

it's only been 10 days, maybe they can't decide what to ask for it.

I guess it depends which salesman you get.

I had some do a quick test drive around the block.

Another didn't care and said go ahead and "floor it".

At one dealership, they said "just leave your driver's license and gave me the keys to an Audi and I went alone on a test drive". I am pretty sure they knew I was going to really have a go at it, which I did! :p

All this was about 15 years ago when I purchased my last car from a dealership.

I don't know how it is now though.

Approx $16,xxx, but it is gone now. They were really motivated to get it off the lot. I don't know what it actually sold for.

Gas finally fell below $4.00 recently (so cal), I am hoping these over priced Plug Ins drop in price soon.
