Changing a lightbulb what could possibly go wrong... ugh

    This should have been a quick easy mod., change the interior lights with LED's. I took off the overhead light cover and tried to remove the first bulb but it wouldn't come out so I wiggled it a little and pushed and pulled a little next thing I know the light has popped back into the console and is nowhere to be found. Looking closer, I know what I did but now need to figure out how to get into that part of the the overhead console to put the light back in place and maybe some suggestions how to pull the bulb out once I've fixed my mistake.

    Update- the other two bulbs came out easily and work great with the LED's

    this is why Toyota charges $100 an hour for labor, they are TRAINED bulb replacement engineer's...

    my guess is the part that holds the bulbs will pop out if you move the clips towards the outer edge, of course they may break off and the light will hang down from now until doomsday ..

    maybe a video on youtube will save you, its worth a look

    I think he's going to do the bosectamy on my 99 miata first then maybe we'll lower the Prius and add power folding mirrors.

    Ugh, I did the exact same thing on my 2007!

    How can we get those clips holding the assembly in place out? I'm afraid of breaking the thing and ruining it.

    I couldn't find a YouTube video on this. Anyone know of one?

    Don't panic!

    I had the same thing happen to me. If I recall correctly, all I needed to do was pull down the entire housing and twist the socket back in. If you look closely, you may find a screw or two to remove first.

    Replacing the interior lights, the back-up lights and the live de plate lights was well worth the effort. The cost was negligible.

    Let us know what happens.

    Finally got around to removing the housing. There were two screws in the sunglass compartment that needed to be undone then piece popped off without even needing to use the wedge tool I bought. I found the light socket rolling around (I assumed the light sockets were connected by wires but they weren't, securing the socket to the board completes the circuit) It was a very easy fix and the lights look good.

    If you're talking about the white-ish plastic circle clips by the lights in my first picture,this stumped me also, they don't need to be removed. In my 06 there are two philips screws you'll see when you open the sun glass holder, unscrew these and use a molding tool (or I just gently pulled with my hands)to bring it down. My setup looked like what Valde3's posted.
