Interior looks a lot like the Mirai, on the cheap end.

Well if the Gen 4 dash is close to looking like that, its interior will match its exterior - hideous.

C'mon Toyota! You can do better than that.

Well, I'm awaiting final judgement until such time as I see the car in person. But in the case of the new "v" the front end is worse in real life than the pictures. IMHO.

I suspect (without knowing) the final design is an example of "meddling" from the front office.
I see things, such as the head and tail lights that are clumsy, certainly not attractive. I very much dislike the side profile. The peak is too far forward, and the rear door side glass is not attractive (proportionally). I suspect the design department let the engineering department down. Again, IMHO.

Toyota has a creative design department. The Tacoma, Highlander, Camry, Avalon and the NS4, while not flashy, are all very handsome designs in their respective categories. I would love to see the design that was (reportedly) rejected.
I am an architect, and have experienced situations where a homeowner dictated changes to a creative and handsome design. You make the changes, but not eagerly.

From images I've seen, I suspect Volt will give Prius a genuine challenge, perhaps not world-wide, but certainly here in America. Depending on the final fuel efficiency and reliability, I suspect the Hyundai will also grab a share of Prius sales. Too bad.

volt and prius are such different cars, i would be surprised if a lot of people switch because of prius design. not sure what hyundai will have to offer, but so far, it's been underwhelming.

A Volt would have to be $7k less than a Prius for me to consider it.

The 2016 PIP and Volt will not be that far apart MSRP.

The standard Prius is not comparable to the Volt - never has been.

I think the negativity is funny. I've now asked five non-Prius people (plus myself) and all five have liked it better than the G3 or G2.

You may find it "funny," and like the design. That is your prerogative. "Negative" opinions expressed are just as valid, and their prerogative also.

Let's wait and see the read thing. It won't be much longer.

Um, let's see. Lee's comparing a 2016 model to a 2010 and a ha, ha 2004 model. He should be comparing it to other 2016 models in the marketplace. Does the G4 look better than the 2016 Volt? A 2014 Ford Fusion? Give me a break. Toyota dropped the ball, man. Big time. I had such high hopes too.

I also don't like the "Mirai Mau". What were they thinking? Mirai's styling is polarizing, supposedly designed for Japanese tastes.

What is it that people, Prius owners, simply don't like the "floating roof", the weird taillamp assemblies, the front "David Niven" whiskers? I have spoke to a few in my direct family and they DO like Gen 4.

I think it goes back to the fact that most of us were expecting more. Instead, we owners feel underwhelmed.

Where's the OMG styling? Where's the I can't live without this vehicle moment? What happened? It's still a Prius, though its now in its fourth generation. Some of us thought it would be I'm ordering this car, here take my money, call me when it arrives.

All the nay sayers, the trolls and what ever else follows this blog are always going to inject their negativity. My hope is that the Prius owners will not judge this vehicle solely on the exterior. I want to drive it to feel the independent rear suspension, to see what changes the car guys haven't told us.
Until I can drive it, then will I be able to say, "I don't like it". Right now, Gen 4 is like a book I haven't read yet. Never judge a book by its cover, you may start reading it and really like it. JTM

A 2016 Volt looks to me a lot like a 2010 Prius, just with a wrinkle on the door and a roof line more like the 2016 Prius.

If you're going to copy someone, copy from the smartest kid in the class. I see that, Lee Jay. My biggest concern with the Volt is that T shaped battery. In order to remove it, the entire rear suspension has to be removed. Plus, it liquid cooled which means leaks and a pump.(!)

Gen 2 Volt is better but I just don't know. I also don't like the fact that the transmission has multiple clutches, which is another point for failure. It does have added range.

It just my opinion, I believe the Prius engineers have sweated all the details. I have some concerns about the Volt engineers.
