Why does everybody seem to think the Model S is so beautiful and the new Gen 4. Prius is ugly ?
Not that I think that Model S isn't a nice car but it also has a kind of wedged shape roofline just as the Prius has .
But in case of the Tesla nobody seems to care about that,in case of the Prius it's being called ugly !
    Originally Prius wasn't a beautiful car .
Gen 2. Prius looked kind of odd too but then with gen 3. they made it look much more attractive.
I own gen. 3 and i love it,but if people can't see how much they further improved the exterior with gen.4 then they must be blind !
It looks far better than gen. 3 !

Well, today, hopefully we will know. I say hopefully, because I hope the "big reveal" is more than teaser shots.

What do you mean "intentionally?" Why would I say it's ugly if I didn't think so? Based on the teasers, I don't like anything about it. And trust me, I want to buy a G4 PiP, but unless some miracle happens tonight, my G3 will do. I'm still pushing 58mpg tanks if I'm hypermiling, so why would I trade for a regular G4, for couple more mpgs?

For your sake, I hope you're not an artist of any kind.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yes I know a number of people have come on here and intentionally said that it's ugly. And no I am NOT an artist.

To my eye, it looks like a new Prius. To other people, it looks ugly. And I respect their opinion. Sales will tell if this car is ugly or beautiful.

I am talking about some of those people that come on here and just stir the pot, so to speak. Here we are on the eve of the Prius Gen 4 reveal. I believe Toyota watches these fan sites.

If sales do not prove out to be what they expected, I'm sure in two years will see a radical change again. Again I respect your opinion that it's ugly. Please respect my opinion that I think is gorgeous. JTM

Beuty is in the eye of the beholder, well sometimes. There are clearly things a majority of people will find beutiful. There are a number of things that make a car, or a dog, or a person look ascetically pleasing. To me the gen IV fails on many of those objective ascetic measures. The gen II looked ugly to a majority, but not to me. The pontiac aztek, the nissan leaf, seem to score higher on the ugly scale. To me the gen IV looks worse than my gen III, and the model S is definitely more attractive. The gen IV though looks better than the mirai, which appears to be the source of its ugly.

I don't think the gen IV is ugly either, but was hoping it would look better than the gen III. IMHO it does not, but in your opion it does. To me the problems stem from the lights and grill, things that could be fixed with a mid model refresh if they hurt sales. The bigger things on my gen III were intrerior layout and materials and handling. If toyota improved those it will have a hit on its hands. I don't understand the timing of the reveal, midnight eastern time, as if they want people in California to see it, but not the eastern part of the country until tomorrow.

Don't assume because other people don't agree with your idea of art, or good looking cars that they are blind. It may just be your taste is different.

I wouldn't say the IV is ugly. Silly, trying too hard, over the top, outlandish, yeah. But not ugly.

Look at all of us, suggesting a mid-course correction already.

It is very easy for us to be "arm chair quarterbacks". Leave the hard stuff for Toyota, guys. They have ways of figuring out what's hot and what's not. Thinking about the Scion iQ and thebl Lexus HS 250. Gone with Axion!

The IQ was a bad design for america from the get go. I don't think this will go the way of the HS, but may go the way of the civic, where honda quickly did a small redesign. Toyota also did a fairly quick redesign of the camry for a mid refresh. IMHO it isn't ugly enough to hurt sales from hard core customers, but may not be good looking enough to dazzle customers. No rumors from me on a mid refresh, but if sales are slow they could do it. They and honda have done it before.

We had a 2010 HyCam that we let our daughter have when we leased our 2013 HyCam. The '13 was decontented, but IMHO it drove better, has a bigger trunk, and felt lithe by comparison to the '10. The front end looked good, but the tail lamps had that weird crab claw look to them.

So if you think the Gen4 is ugly, I am sure Toyota will hear you. It is a good design as is. But, the sales will tell us if it's a winner .

Wasn't one reason for the delay rumoured to be a restyling? If so, I'd be curious to see the "before" design.

Me too, Mendel. I wonder how much Toyota invested in the first place and then the "restyle".

It's possible the first iteration of the design was too conservative. If you remember the really early spy shots, the shape was really close to the Gen 3. Of course, they could've just been using a Gen 3 body as a cover. I'll will see if I can ask the Chief Designer tonight what he had changed.

A wise guy, huh? Park any car next to an Aztek and it looks better. What do you have when you have three Azteks on the same lot? Lifetime supply

Thanks for that. Maybe see if they have a few left over? :)

I kinda think they'll be tight lipped, close ranks on that. But who knows.
