Does anyone know if the system is plug and play to a vehicle currently without the nav system? I think it's just the box under the passenger seat. I bought a second 03 with the nav and want to install it in my original. Thanks

There's an antenna that goes up high in the instrument panel, near the combination meter, and a bit of cabling for that. I know 2001 lacked the wires in the wiring harness; what I don't know for 2003 is whether the wiring is always included, or there's an extra floor harness in the cars with nav.

Look for posts about nav by PriusChat member mlibanio, who knows all about it.

I looked into this a few years back. You need the floor wiring harness that connects the passenger seat to the dash wiring. There are two different part numbers for the assembly - one if your car has side airbags in the seat, another if it doesn't. If I remember it right, the same harness was used through 2009 so one from a salvage yard Gen II should work. You want the one from a car with nav!
You need the nav computer/dvd player that goes under the seat and the mounting hardware
as chap said you need the antenna which is mounted up in the dash so you have to pull the panels --- these are subject to heat/age deterioration and will crack when you take it off if you're not super careful.
Again if I remember correctly, all the harness connections are straightforward - no cutting or splicing- but I'm not sure.
If you upgrade to a nav unit from a 2004-2009 with voice commands and the other nifty features, you will also need to get a mike and install it. The mike in the Gen II is in the overhead light compartment and routes through the windshield pillar with that harness.
It is a lot of work but it has been done by others. Have you searched alll the messages in this Gen I meeting?

Thanks for the heads up. I was hoping to pull and plug the unit. Sounds like too much effort with all the portables out there. I've pulled 2 dashes for bulb replacement. Both ended up needing super glue with hot-melt glue backup. One dash looks pretty good, the other not so much...I reinstalled both without the screws that mount to the screen. As long as you salvage the 4 corner clips, you wouldn't know the difference.

Way too much work to swap the crappy outdated NAV system. Multiple wiring harnesses in the car are different. Just use your smartphone or buy a $100 portable unit.
