The car does look much better in person. We'll be sharing photos, including some exclusive angles, as soon as we can get them up!

Toyota is mum on specs for now other than what was in the press-release, and what we could see (the hoods could not be popped on these vehicles).

    From post-reveal pictures:
    Automatic grill shutters.
Li Ion battery (at least in the touring model).

    From press release:
"The new nickel-metal hydride hybrid battery is more compact while its durability and charging performance have been significantly improved."

    What model comes with li-ion?

At first I really disliked it but then it began to grow on me. I really do like the front and overall shape of the vehicle. As for the interior, that white trim is hideous and I don't see a HUD button/panel. As for a the speedometer in the center...I'll have to see if I can get used to that. Also, I'm not a fan of the "nub" shifter and I don't see how I can get the Stage 10 mod on that setup.

I don't like it and now I am really glad I bought a used 2013.

    - Exterior is far too busy....I'll join the chorus of those labeling it plain ugly.
    - would have strongly preferred the instrument cluster moved over to be in front of the driver. This choice is the most confusing to me.

The trunk is deeper and no longer flat with the trunk sill or the back of the seats when folded down. Absolute dealbreaker. I have my rears seat folded down 100% of the time and it's a flatbed like a small truck. Great for cabs though.

Dropping the deck "could" mean they eliminated the spare tire, a deal breaker for me...

Not feeling it at all. :(

For me, the front looks too low, the rear is far too fussy. That white centre console..eck!
Concerned about the headroom in the rear. Not happy that it appears as if the rear overhang has been increased.

Maybe it will look better in the metal, maybe it will look better in a different colour than that lipstick red (but not holding out much hope after seeing the photo of the rear end of the black car), maybe the interior will look better without the optional white trim (can't look worse), but like it said just not feeling it at the moment.

There is certainly nothing there to get me to rush to a Toyota showroom next spring with £25K in my hands.

When is the Gen 5 due? 2022?

On some, there was a spare. Others, just a tire repair kit. Looks like the spare will depend on packaging. Not sure why though. GVWR?

That high belt line behind the B pillar is not doing short rear seat passengers any favours. Kids are going to hate sitting back there as they won't be able to see out. So much for making it a family car.

    Glad got the 2015 Persona:cool:
Front looks great but the rear..... is it a Prius or the Mirai ? and the rims looks the old Momo wheels.

Well, looks like Gen 3 sales should stay strong after seeing that

Ah, so this thread has all the guys looking for an excuse to not buy this new car. ;)

Pearl S has only 22,000 km on her but I see the 2016 moved the shifter to the lower dash/console area on the vertical part.
I love the white bits down low. It's usually so dark down there I can't see the controls (and yes, I curse black audio equipment).

Now I'm "conflicted". Maybe these guys can help me save my money and persuade me the new car is terrible. Well, maybe not. -I- think it's just fine, from what I've seen so far. A close inspection is actually required by any intelligent person before forming such absolute conclusions.

I was looking for an excuse to spend money. Instead, Toyota decided it doesn't want it.

I'm worried about glare. Large white surfaces inside a car are usually not a good thing.

I have seen two different diffusers .
Do they separate the normal Prius from the even more efficient eco model Prius ?

The only Sonic to not have a spare is the LT sedan with manual and 1.4L turbo. The base LS trims have a spare, but they can't be equipped with the more efficient turbo, and their manual has 5 speeds vs the 6 speeds behind the turbo engine. So GM cut the weight by taking out the spare in the model with the more efficient engine and transmission with 2 overdrives in the sedan that will have some aero advantage over the hatchback. I proposed this was the car used for EPA testing and got the 40mpg highway. EPA rules will allow its results to be used for all Sonics with the 1.4l and manual transmission, regardless of actual weight of body type.

Perhaps this also what Toyota deletes the spare for, but I can think of another possibility. The spare tire might have to go to make room for the MG3 of AWD.

The kids will just be looking down at their phones and GameBoys anyway.

I didn't observe whether they all had similar diffusers, spoilers, etc. We'll go through the photos and see if the devil is in the details.

Toyota might have to rate these differently, and in a way, I hope they do, as it would be a great selling point toward the rumored Eco trim.

I'll take AWD instead of spare tire, thank you. But first I must get over the looks, maybe in couple of years if the design matures or someone faceliftes it ;)
