Little power button next to Qi charging bay must be to turn charging on/ off

Just curious if any word that journalists got to first drive the car(s) today?

    ---------------------
BTW, Have a look at the Blue Prius wheels - how could the silver part be a wheelcover? Hmmm.

Danny if not too much trouble could you add the straight on side shot of the Red car above. That one really shows the difference to me. It's a 'small-nosed' car, but sure looks like the interior space is maximized given the smooth curve of the windshield, roof and rear window.

    -------------------------
Looks like a good and convenient place for the phone / charging. Could prop it up for Google Maps.

Smart move to put shifter on lower dash, out of way of cupholders and phone bay. Well done! Shifter doesn't get used often while driving anyway.
    -------------------------

My prediction given the sleeker looks, slightly larger size, stiffer body, indy rear suspension, more power, more MPGs, improved interior and seats ... this will be the best selling liftback yet (although the golden years of high gas prices and virtually no hybrid competition (2005 - 2011 ?) were very good sales conditions for those Prius')

    TIA

Just added more photos from Europe. They are different from the US photos, and have some better details.

The photo of the rear of a blue Prius, identified as Press Photo 28 shows a small badge on the lower right area of the hatch (to the right of the license plate area). The red car does not have that badge. There is a larger view of it on the Toyota.com web site under upcoming vehicles.

Does any one know what it indicates. I wonder if it signifies the "eco" model.

Edit: it does appear to be the eco model.

I am a more than proud owner of my Olive - an 04 Gen 2. But Toyota lost the edge here. As my Dad used to say, they just cut a fat pig in the nice person and spoiled both hams. I will not even consider looking a this vehicle.

Guess what they say is true. It's tougher to stay on top than it is to get there. So long Prius, it's been a great run.

Looks like the Volt will get it's chance at mass appeal. The Prius will live on as a darling of the taxi industry and fleets .

Looking at Danny's post #8, the side view of Red car, here is what I see -

The front half of new Prius pretty much looks like a Corolla from the side but with a little bit shorter nose (or other cars like Corolla). And how many Corollas, and Civics, and Elantras, etc .... are sold here? August 2015 YTD U.S. Vehicle Sales Rankings - Top 283 Best-Selling Vehicles In America - Every Vehicle Ranked - GOOD CAR BAD CAR ....

link above, Corolla, Civic, Elantra, Cruze and Focus have 5 spots of top 20 selling passenger vehicles (cars, trucks, SUVs) YTD in US. Prius / PiP combo is in 43 place.

The back half of new Prius is unique to my knowledge: Any other liftbacks that have a shape like that?
Toyota has said it will offer the same rear passenger and cargo room as 3rd gen Prius. Let's wait and see how the rear seats are (did anyone sit in the rear seats at the reveal?)
    ------------------------------------------------

I'll wager most journalists will say this new Prius is a sharper looking (and driving) car. So, those who are rejecting it, are you sure you are really for saving gas and resources, not just for yourself, but society? Why is it that you prefer a 'more unusual' looking car like the 2nd generation Prius? More unusual doesn't make more people want to buy it. Most people want to blend in with the 'crowd' of cars, not stick out.

Basically, this new 4th gen Prius will look more attractive and cooler than any other Prius on the road to date (and have more MPGs, drive better, etc..) In the car business that matters. Good job Toyota :) Don't worry, this will be your best selling Prius ever!

Google 'The Other Guys Prius Youtube' and have a watch. The film grossed over $170 million at box office featured quite a slandering, 'dissing', and bashing of a Red 2nd gen Prius, not for 15 seconds, but several minutes in different parts of film. Before that SouthPark Smug Alert, Jeff Dunham, Top Gear running a tank over 2nd gen Prius before shooting 900 rounds into it.
Did you see the footage of a large gathering demolishing a (2nd gen) Prius, 4 trucks pulling it with chains in opposite directions (Prius sheared the tow hook off one truck and didn't break apart, haha) after taking turns bashing it with sledge hammer? Think I am making it up? On Youtube for all to see.

Is the above the direction of (some) public opinion you want to see the Prius (liftback) go back to or stay in?

Your 2nd gen Prius sold in such high numbers partly because of high gas prices, fear of higher gas prices, HOV lane stickers (at least here in CA), rebates, Iraq and Afghan wars and virtually no other hybrid competition and no plug-ins on the market. Now there are many other hybrids and plugins available, US doesn't have 140,000 (?) troops in Iraq and the 3rd gen Prius liftback is still, by far, the top selling hybrid in the world. And to date I haven't seen Youtube of anyone demolishing a 3rd gen Prius. Seems to be heading in right direction.
The 2nd gen Prius, put back on market today, brand new, would flop in sales. Believe me, there would be no waiting lists for it.

Toyota is moving forward with Prius not staying behind. Prius has been on top in hybrid sales through 3rd gen and will continue on top with this 4th gen Prius. :p

I see a donut spare! Two more cars sold. ;)

I don't see the "shutters" behind the grill, but I'm old and easily confused.

So is the rear seat with the Lithium battery inside the seat bottom a "hot seat"? (just a play on the well known li battery fires - though it could warm up a bit as the battery gets hot) ;)

Man, I looked at them all, and "-yawn-". Tired, not bored. ;)

    Thanks for your efforts guys!

So do these images of them make the designers rock stars?

The more pictures I see, the more I like the styling. I like the smart phone perch but could skip the iQ charging, hope the USB port is close by. The significant upgrade to me would be safety (real life insurance). Nice to have better performance (0-60), handling, and comfort. No mention of 4-wheel drive via separate rear motor?

And a lower nose. I took a rough measurement of my Gen 3. The Gen 4 is a good 8" lower than my Gen 3's TOYOTA emblem. The top of the emblem on the Gen 4 is 24" off the ground. The Gen 3 is approximately 32"

There's a separate set of plastic vents/fins behind. It's hard to see even in real life when they're open.

Yes, the USB/AUX and 12V power outlet are between the cupholders and the centre console box.

It's not enough to like a car or whatever, I think it's better to say you love the car to buy it. That's what most people say who are happy: " I love my car".

Hmm, I measured 2011 Prius with level, top of Toyota emblem Silver ring slightly over 28", like 28 1/8". I almost put the bottom of level on silver ring, then referenced top of level to tape measure, but corrected that.

    Check again? ;)
