Newbie Test Drive Questions

I'm a newbie too. I sure wish one could figure this out by vin # but not so. Giving Toyota corp customer service vin # is most accurate way to confirm. I refuse to admit how many times I've called to inquire. Toyota employees don't always know where to look and don't typically know what I mean when I ask what "package" this Prius came with. Stating you are looking for original equipment usually helps. If they are having trouble, tell them it's located in the "Additional Vehicle Details" section.

I also ask for first date of use and state where vehicle was initially purchased. This helps me determine if car was purchased in a state adhering to CA emissions laws and how much time is left on hybrid battery. Not everyone cares about this. It matters to me because I could pay $10,000 for two different cars and depending where and when car was originally purchased, I could have 2-3 more years on hybrid battery warranty or zero.

The Touring model has larger 16" wheels with 7 spokes rather than 15" and 6 spokes. Toyota Corp. seems unable to tell me if a Prius is a Touring but you can request an original equipment info sheet for particular vehicle. This should give details on wheel size and upgraded suspension etc.

If you are looking for a Gen lll Prius, I know they've renamed the trim levels etc. but I'll save that research for when I can buy a newer model.

You can check 12V battery usage on the display but can't remember how. I've been told Toyota dealer can test hybrid battery to see it's failing but I'm not sure they can check for abuse etc. I'm sure someone else will chime in soon.
