Prius is at 75K and oil is due at the end of the month....What is the new thought, if any, on the high mileage motor oil that various places, including a NAPA house brand, puts out?

Not that much more than the regular stuff -- like they say, couldn't hurt??

Oh, the ducks....I will probably change the oil while listening to the University of Oregon football team peck away at the Colorado Buffs! QUACK!

    Duck season....already????

FWIW, I don't consider 75,000 miles to be "high mileage."

You can give them the few extra duckets (pun intended) for the designer blend but I don't think that it's going to amount to much.
    6 - 5 and pickem.

Same here. I've only owned one car with under 75k miles.

I personally just use Mobil-1 0w-20 and will until if/when it starts using a significant amount of oil (at 113k miles now).

The oil makers all say to start the hi-mile stuff at 75,000. Don't think it will hurt, probably will not help, either, esp. with the Prius.

As for the duckies, here in Washington, wish we had a team we could brag about. Maybe the Cougs will do something, but the Ducks are missing their star QB, so that is something, but they will not have any trouble with Colorado.

I would definitely go with the high-mileage stuff for more ease of mind.

I wouldn't unless you have some indication that you are using oil.

Doing 80k change this weekend. I'm following the manual 0w20. Why would I deviate if nothing is wrong? Fuel economy is normal. Engine sounds normal. No noticeable oil usage. The only reason to use high mileage oil is because the bottle says for older cars 75k miles and up.

Googled "what is different about a high mileage oil", lots of interesting links. This one is particularly topical:

    Interesting post, Mendel.

Guess I stay with the conventional -- not high miles -- stuff.
