True but looking at the two photos of the silver and red car, it might be a snap on. If so, I'm sure there will be aftermarket support for optional finishes (at least I hope there will be).

It is the next thing coming down the line, not just the Prius. There will be other cars offering a white trim of sorts for 2016.

It's a feature, not a bug as they say.

If that's a new designer involved, he could probably find a job designing clock radios, the classic ones anyway.

I drive a Prius not just because it's fuel efficient but because it's also kind of different to all the other most boring designs out there .
The white center console is also something different to what you usually see,so I kind of like it !
The only thing I don't understand is the middle part of the cupholders, you can press it down but what is it good for ?
it can be seen in the video below .
It's sad they have taken away storage possibilities and once again the door pockets only sem to fit very small bottles if at all .

Is suppose if you have a cup with a handle that center section would make room for the handle.

You sound like an old software engineer. Of course that statement, "its a feature not a bug" was used to attempt to sluff-off an actual bug - which is what I consider the bathroom fixtures to be.

To me the issues with the white are first that it will mark easily and won't look very nice after a couple of years of constant use. Also, in my opinion it just doesn't look good. Then the small module containing the shift lever is really odd looking. It looks like an afterthought under the console, and the white only tends to emphasizes that odd design. A dark color would have the effect of hiding that ugly design.

I guess you can see that I'm really not a fan of the white.

Just the opposite with me. The more I see the white inside, the more I want to puke.

What we gained at the reveal, luckily, is the absence of the feared giant open maw grille, yet we wouldn't have been able to see it while we were driving the car. That's a win. What we got instead is a distracting interior design element that draws the driver's eyes away from the important road ahead and unintentionally directs the driver's eyes towards unimportant and distracting elements not in the line of sight.

I am hoping that at every level there will be some way of opting out of the porcelain white with certain combinations of interiors and exteriors. After a few years when Toyota decides the white isn't worth offering based on prior sales or feedback, any future used car that has the white is going to be avoided by the majority of prospective buyers. The way I see it the white stuff will eventually be a liability.

Well, Darth Vader has always wanted to take us to the Dark Side. I'll happily join up if he can also convince the marketing department to drop the bathroom fixtures.

Maybe we're getting off topic, a bit.

I guess Toyota is watching our reaction to the white center console,so maybe there will be changes before official launch .

They have been designing and developing this car for years, and it's scheduled to go into production in just over a month. I would guess they have their suppliers lined up already, not to mention several posts have already stated the white color is going to be an option. I doubt they are concerned with the 8 or 10 posts on Priuschat that said they don't like it.

Sadly I agree. The only feedback that'll make it through to them is slumping sales, if it happens.

wouldn't it be ironic if the auto press and public heralded the new prius as a major advance in design and execution, after the snubbing from a few diehard owners?

Yes. I posted earlier that they made it look like they forgot the shifter and had to find a place to bolt it on at the last second. Really poor design.

The focus is largely on the aesthetics of the exterior, but to me, that is not only irrelevant, but also just fine. It's the interior where they really screwed up - the white accents, the Qi charger taking up a lot of room, the non-flat cargo area when the seats are folded down, the lack of a fold-flat front seat, and the big one, the lack of interior storage.

i see the charger area as a good storage place for those of us without phones.;)

i wonder if 3d printers could manage some nice configurations to cover the stock console?

Perhaps the designer was inspired by the modularity of the TNGV. So went with the look of things being popped out and changed.

I have a phone, but the Qi charger is still useless because my phone doesn't have a Qi charge system. Even if it did it would still be useless because my wife is often in my car and needs to charge her phone at the same time as I charge mine. Even if the Qi system could charge two phones at once, it would *still* be useless because she usually uses her phone while it's on charge and I almost always want to be able to see my phone while it's on charge.

In other words, the Qi system as implemented in the Prius is just an expensive and useless little tray. I hope someone makes a device that can turn it into a place to store my little necessities like my badge for work, which I need to use just to enter the property in my car.

And while they're doing that, I hope someone (aside from me) implements an after-market system to make the lower back cargo area in the Li-ion version into a false floor with storage underneath. I've already designed a system to do that but I'd rather not have to do it myself. And that's all assuming I buy one of these cars, which is far from certain (it was a near certainty before announcement).
