Any of you heard about Burger King's new Halloween Burger?

First, let me say, I'm 60. I pretty much don't do fast food anymore. It's expensive and usually less than good.

But, I was driving back from the airport a few days ago after a long day of flying back to Seattle from the East Coast. Had not eaten all day and wanted something to eat. Thought of my usual solution, 7-11 and a can of NOS and a bag of peanut M&M's.

But, no, I went to Burger King. Tired and a bit disoriented, I approached the counter. Not having been in a BK for several years, I was a bit confused by the menu. But, a very enthusiastic teen greeted me, not sullen, not surly -- was I really in BK. His mood was a bit infectious (remember that word). He recommended the new Halloween burger, he really recommended it. Said I would love it. Not wanting to disappoint him, I ordered it.

Well, the next day, I got a real surprise. It nearly sent me to the local urgent care clinic until I thought about heavily dyed hamburger bun I had the previous day.

    Here's a news story:

Oh, why did I eat that? Burger King's black bun Halloween Whopper has 'colorful' after effects | masslive.com

    Trick or Treat.

Yep, I'm pretty open to trying "new" foods. BUT...I'd pass on that.

Is this Burger Kings "trick" on consumers.

Hard to believe they didn't test or know about the "after affects". How do you market something like that without knowing the potential (cough) outcome?

You're a braver man than me. Because one look at that....and every conscious and subconscious survival instinct say's "Don't Eat It!".

    On the other hand?

I can see teen-agers or younger, actually seeking the burger out....because of this side affect.

What horrifies us and nearly sends us to the emergency room when we are older....is a "dare" around the lunch table when you are young.

I do BK sometimes for a quick lunch. All of $1.79 for a Whopper Jr., no cheese. With a water, it's pretty decent and low calorie.

That dark bun made me sick from just seeing the commercial.

Well if you really enjoy burgers from Burger King, just know they use a percentage of horse meat in their patties. So when you ride off, you can say " Hi Oh Silver"
No kidding , that's what I heard recently.
Now if they had a little Fishcrab in them, I would go for it. ;)

I don't eat there for health reasons, but, what's wrong with horse meat? Americans ought to be eating it. No different than cow, probably leaner and healthier too. Everyone else in the world eats it.

Yeah my wife showed me an ad last night. Will I try one? Not only no but hell no! (n)

Two years ago, I went on an all natural juice fast. Besides losing a lot of weight, I began to feel the best I had in years and had WAY more energy. Previously I was beginning to have a lot of joint pain and thought maybe it was early arthritis but that also disappeared. After reaching my weight loss goal, I began to reintroduce both solids (ha-ha) and "good" meats (white chicken, fish, pork) back into my diet. Before long the weight was coming back, exercising was becoming more arduous, and I no longer felt as good as I once had.

So.... this year both the wife, who got some warning flags from the doc about cholesterol, and I decided to go vegan for health reasons so the only animals were hoping to save are ourselves! :p This is not a diet rather it's a lifestyle change. I no longer "diet". I eat as much as I want yet the weight is coming back off (2-3 pounds/month) and the energy is back (swam 1600 meters at lunch today).:)

I've come to find it ironic that we will put only "the best oil" or "the best gas" in our car yet not give a second thought to what we put in our bodies.

That's EXACTLY my story! I'm 47 years old. I watched a few netflix vids after a friend recommended. "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" was the first one, made me want to start juicing, and I had a minor arthritis, or joint pain or inflammation, whatever you call it. So this was in April, since then I lost 30 lbs! I was 200, now I'm at a very lean 170, which is the low end of my ideal weight range, so I JUST this week stopped using MyFitnessPal to count my calories, so hopefully I level out at 170 by just eating clean. Now I'm just drinking a big juice/protein powder with my breakfast with a little something like oatmeal. Big salad for lunch. Light dinner. Very rare I will eat red meat, only a little chicken. In my lunch salads at work, I put in one of those little foil packets of wild salmon for more protein. Oh yea, and started running/cycling 6 days a week. I've never felt better! So - I'm with you fotomoto, way to go!

I also didn't think of it as a 'diet', I wasn't even really trying to lose weight, just wanted to juice it up and see what happened, it evolved into a real lifestyle change. It's changed me for the better on so many levels. I'll never go back. Can't remember last time I set foot in a regular grocery store, I get all my stuff at the local farmers market, and the rest at a organic grocery near my home.

Part of what drove me also was after watching a few vids (like Fed Up) on how the dept of agri is allowing Big Sugar and Big Food to pander their poisons in our grocery stores and kids cafeterias, using misleading words, putting out 'studies' showing e.g. soda isn't bad for us, putting candy everywhere we look (can't even pay for your gas w/o standing in front of about 100 crap food thingies at kid eye level), etc. so this is just another way I can stick it to 'the man' hehehe

Needless to say, my joint pain is all gone. I've been a little short of breath my whole life, and that's gone. Another weird effect was my skin, it's so much better, face is all clean and healthy. I have more energy. And I'm back to the same weight I was in college. What's not to like?

We've always been told by our doctors, scientists, etc, to 'eat your veggies' and 'cut back on sugar', etc. but I'd never actually really done it, not sure what took me so long. Glad I finally tried it. I bet if more people like us would just TRY it, like a 30 day trial, most, like us, would never look back.

<off my soap box too lol>

So the problem then is eating a burger? The government needs to prevent us from harming ourselves. There ought to be a law. I'm going to write a letter to my congressman right now. :ROFLMAO:

I was with you until you said 7-11, NOS, and M&M as if those three names are any better on nutrition than Burger King. I'd choose a burger over the chemicals used to make that beverage any day.

Anyway, I applaud BK for trying to introduce America to a color that other parts of the world has no issues with for their food. Squid ink, blood sausages, black chicken, Jajanghmyeon, and etc. I had quite the fun eating Chinese thousand year old eggs in front of my horrified coworkers a few years ago. Our Sunday morning comfort food is a spectacle because it is a spoiled black egg. Absolutely love it. Just because it is black doesn't mean it is a dye.

Well I have to admit, you guys are a convincing lot. I'm in all the way.

Tonight at bowling, I'm having a hot dog, no burgers. Never eat fries anyway, so that's good. Only healthy food for me from now on.

    OP Again:

Hey, now I said PEANUT M&Ms. Much healthier! :ROFLMAO:

I've enjoyed the comments -- esp. about horsemeat.

But just wanted to say, a little bit of junk food now and again, is not going to hurt anyone IMHO. NOS and M&Ms or Coke and Moonpies.

Back when I was a Boy Scout leader, it was a given that once or twice a season, a parent (well, it was always a mom), jumped on me about what the boys ate on a camping trip.

These were weekenders, one night, rarely two. Heavens, the boys wanted hot dogs and marshmallows and chocolate and graham crackers. I had oranges and bananas, but those seemed somewhat unpopular. Nope, no salads or gluten-free bread in sight. My response was that I was sorry, but a couple of weekends a year of "bad food" was not going to scar them for life. Longer trips, we ate "better."

Back in my 20s, in the 1970s, I did both water and juice fasts, once a year for 3-5 days, depending on my mood. I ran 10-12 miles a day and I was a vegetarian. I felt pretty good. But, as the years went by, the hassle of being vegetarian, even on the West Coast was extreme. And, after three knee surgeries, gave up the running, replacing it with walking.

I took "veggie" back up in the late 1990s and it was pretty simple by then, because while still "unusual" people did not think you were totally weird at least in Seattle.

But, wifey refused to join in, so finally dropped it about two years ago. You know, I don't feel any better, I don't feel any worse, except about the whole industrial agricultural complex and the commercial meat industry :(

Anyway, this was just to be a quick "somewhat funny" and a bit cautionary note if anyone did go to BK -- but like all things PriusChat -- sometimes things go in interesting and unexpected directions. :)

Yup, that's the one that started it all for me. It was like looking in the mirror. I bought a juicer the very next day, began my personal "reboot" and two months later I had dropped 65 pounds (hardcore!).

I'm not a "meat is murder" type; far from it as I own 5 grill/smokers (no kidding). I have however become "a lot of meat is not good for you" type and, more importantly, that processed pink goo marketed as burger is very bad for you.

All I can do is ask folks to educate their selves and find out what these man made process chemical compounds do to the body on the cellular level.

YUM! And here's what it can look like 5 years from now.

Five years ago, on July 4, Carroll was grilling some hot dogs for a family gathering, and he dropped one of them on the ground.

Josh Severin, a family member, quickly picked it up, and instead of merely brushing the hot dog off and putting it back on the grill as most men would do (remember the 5-second rule), he stuck it, lengthwise, on the radio antenna on Carroll's pickup truck.

That hot dog, after five years, after 80,000 miles, after rain and storm and sleet and hail, is still on that antenna.

LOL That's disturbing! Like in that movie "Supersize Me", those McDonald fries, after like weeks of sitting out at room temp, were still golden and appeared as though they were still fresh. As a comparison, the real fried potatoes in that experiment were a black gooey mess of mold. It just ain't food no more!
