How can I mod the DRL to have it on at all time? (for 2013 models)

I had to undo this mod. When the car was charging, the DRL's would turn on at the same time and wouldn't turn off unless I unplugged the car. This issue appears to be limited to the plug-in only. Any suggestions on other fuses to tap instead?

You would need a fuse that is powered only when Ready. Maybe if you can find the fuse for the inverter coolant pump, or wiper motor and tap that.

I have a PiP. I was planning on rerouting the wires supplying power to the DRL to a relay to use as a negative trigger to another relay that provides power to the DRL.

Then I can add a switch as another negative trigger to trip the new DRL relay.

I think this is the most non-invasive way possible, but would there be any issue if the OEM DRL circuit sees that there is low current being pulled by the DRLs?

I suppose I could just clip one of the DRL wires and see if misbehaves in any way.

Part of the low demand might be the performance of the stock fog lights. Have them, never use them, apart from flipping them on/off once in a long while, to verify they're actually turning on. That's not a trivial task.

I had a 2008 4Runner where I rigged the fog lights to stay on with parking and high beams. Except, instead of removing the fog relay, I bent a pin and jumped the pin, leaving the other functions intact. Could we do something similar here?

Hello. Just bought a prius couple days ago. Noticed that the DRLs turn off when headlights are on, thankfully found this forum and this thread.

Where can I buy the same wire you used?

When inserting the other end of wire to red fuse 10amp, how did you do it? Did you just wrap the wire to the pins of fuse?

Sorry newbie here and not used to these electronic thing.

    Thank you

I am planning to wire my drl once the warranty expires, but using rectifilers, relays and resistance coils when headlights come on 6-8 v to the drl and back to 12 V stock when low beam is off!

I'm sure someone addressed this already but the DRLs at night would be way too bright creating lots of glare and stray light. This is dangerous. Find a way to have 12V from the headlights trigger a relay which then has a resistor in line that reduces power (maybe restricts to 25% brightness)

Sorry if this has been recommended already.

also BTW.. not sure what all this concern about the warranty is. If you modify something, you void the warranty for that particular part. not the entire car, hybrid system, etc. So you void the warranty on some 10 cent fuses and dollar-store 22 gauge wire. Who cares? Mod away. (assuming your mods are good and safe) =)

Original instructions here: How can I mod the DRL to have it on at all time? (for 2013 models) | Page 3 | PriusChat

Use a low profile mini ATM fuse tap like this: [IMG] with two 10 amp fuses in it to tap the 10 amp circuit shown in the above instructions.

Connect the wire coming out of the fuse tap to a quarter inch male spade terminal like this http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=301750507122&alt=web you may need to extend this wire using some 14 awg wire.

Then plug the male spade into the correct location from the removed DRL relay in the instructions above.

    thanks!!!!!

i dont understand why this would void warranty. when i spoke with the dealer they said as long as i dont touch engine/suspension, it shouldnt void my warranty. if this voids warranty, adding HID kit (with relay) should void warranty too, right?

The only time anthing would void the warranty if if the modification cause the "failure" in question

Example: BCM (Body Control Module) failure.....dealer would state cause was DRL mod

Suspension failure.....dealer cannot state cause of DRL mod because it has nothing to do with suspension.

Remember guys......The dealer has to prove that the failure is a direct result of a "mod"

I would like to keep all DRL on/off switching functionality (i.e. keep the DRL relay) but add the low beams on/off signal to the mix such that the low beams being on activate the DRLs. If the low beams are off, then the default DRL switching behavior would remain as stock. Does this make sense? Has anyone gone this route?

Does anyone happen to know the voltage of the signal input to the DRL relay? Is this signal fused on the fuse panel such that I could use a fuse tap to achieve the desired functionality?

    Thank you!

Maybe someone can help me out here. I purchased one of the relays mentioned above but the blue part is circular so I can't stick it where the blue drl relay was. I even tried to squish it to make it fit but dlrs wouldn't turn on.

Gilbert, you have to cut that connector off and attach a 1/4 inch spade crimp on connector. Trying to force that female bullet connector into your DRL relay terminal socket will damage it, if you haven't already.

There is a picture in this post that shows the female bullet connector replaced with a spade terminal (post #78): How can I mod the DRL to have it on at all time? (for 2013 models) | Page 4 | PriusChat

TBH, if you don't know the difference between these basic connectors, then you shouldn't be messing with your car's electrical system.

Couldn’t find my add a fuse from my fog light mod on my Xterra so I went and bought another on last night. Took about 5 minutes to complete! IMG_0133.JPG IMG_0131.JPG IMG_0132.JPG
