    Hi everyone,

I've never owned a car before so I'm VERY new at when and what actually need maintenance so I was wondering if someone has a list of what needs to be maintenanced at how many km or miles for a Prius v? I really don't want to be ripped off because I don't know what needs to be done.

    Thanks ahead of time :)

The only service I recommend you add to Toyota's is to drain and fill (not flush) the ATF WS in the transaxle at about 30,000 then 90,000 miles and then every 90,000 miles.

Except the Brakes, everything can be done DIY or an independent mechanic.

Forgot to mention: being a newbie, expect the dealer to tell you all manor of things that you "need". Also expect that 100% of it is BS.
The only thing you need is what's on the list in the manual.

Thanks for the input! I'll make sure to keep a heavy foot when I bring the car in.. I'll bring the manual with me to make sure I'm getting only then things that needs to be done done. If they say something else is wrong I'll get my father in-law to look at it (he was a mechanic for years)

The problem with using a mechanic not familiar with the Prius is that many things are unique and the diagnostic process and tools are too.

Unless its a high-mileage car, mostly you only need oil changes and filters.

The car I'm looking at is a 2012 Prius v luxury package 64,000km extended warranty till 2018 or 120,000km it's selling for $21,700 plus taxes, etc. Was priced at $22,300 in the summer. Past month they have dropped the price almost $300. It's a clear sky blue colour. Amazing car... Still had the plastic from the manufacturing in it around the front window on both sides (the dealer said it was an old persons car) car report just says there was a front window replacement from a crack but no history of accidents. The car felt amazing on my 2 test drives... Will be taking it for one more on the actual highway so that I get the feel of high speeds and bumps and hills (hopefully the engine doesn't make too much noise on and off cruise control)
