Rust on battery?

    I'm considering buying a 2012 c 3 (dropped the c4 I had been considering d/t sleazy dealer). All of the photos I see on other used cars show a pristine looking battery under the hood. This one has salt (it's originally from MA) and quite a bit of rust. Does this effect its performance? Any need for concern?

    could be a flood car that was never reported to insurance...NEVER BUY RUST!!! pay extra and get something clean, being cheap now will cost more in the long run...

    I thought the battery, assuming it's the 12 volt we're talking about, was under rear seat. Hybrid battery is back there too. Confused by "under the hood". Maybe the inverter?

    I think the invertor is aluminum so that should not rust, everything else is plastic, maybe he's not looking at a prius.

    No rust, as there is no battery...................under the hood.

    Batteries, wherever they are, don't exactly rust. You can get a crystalline build-up on the posts.

    The c doesn't have a battery under the hood. We live in the salt belt states and I don't have that much rust under my hood. Some clamps and nuts and such are rusty but thats it.

    Sorry folks, didn't see all of these great responses until now. Thanks for your collective wisdom. Passed on the rusted battery or whatever it was under the hood.

    Now I have a different concern. Ended up buying a 2012 Prius c. I came out of my office two weeks after having it only to find someone smashed the back bumper and left white paint on my dark gray car. No note was left, but learned can use no fault insurance. Hence, a $250 deductible vs $500. Insurance will cover another $140. However, when I brought it to the recommended shop they told me it will not look 100% correct. I still don't understand what they meant, color, form…? They recommended buying another bumper, perhaps from a junk yard.

    Then, and I can hardly believe I did this, two weeks later I was running a quick errand. Turns out the parking spot I drove into was shorter than the others. It had a concrete bumper placed about 3/4 of the way into the size of the other spots. I barely hit it, but bent the bumper substantially. I plan to pay for this one out of pocket.

    I had my last car for 14 years and neither of these things ever happened.

    Wondering and concerned about getting the bumpers repaired or replaced easily and done well. Suggestions about getting new bumpers, from where, and/or getting them repaired --- in a way that is not too much hassle? What to ask about or look out for? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

    I backed my 2005 into a bush which actually put a 1 in. Hole in the bumper. I used normal fender repair methods and it turns out fair. Paint match was excellent, can of spray paint. One can also replace the whole bumper and then get it painted professionally. Toyota charges more for painting thru one of their cotractors, or suggested shop. That work is perfect, but expect to pay more. For the DIY, the bumper comes off incredibly easy, that thing outside is just a cover and the real bumper is lower, more inset and much tougher. I ended up getting $10,000 for the car, so the paint and body work couldn't have been too bad. Wish you luck.

    i backed into a mammoth suv that was hidden by the spoiler, and it cost me $850. to replace the hatch and paint it.

    I did something utterly stupid. Backed into garage forgetting trunk was up. Ripped it right off. Basically all that holds the spoiler is 5 nuts that are glued onto the trunk. After 2 repairs I finally got it semi-right using liberal quantities of Epoxy glue. Not a perfect fix, but $850.00 richer. Now I always close the trunk with my whole hand on the spoiler.
    The seat heater felt so good today!

    OP, you are not one with your car. Learn where your corners are and heed them. I won't be so bold as to pay better attention as you already know that.

    Plastic bumpers. Think of all the plastic things you have crushed and how wrinkled and bent up they were. You can't really beat them back into shape and have the look just like they did before. Expect to buy new bumpers if you want them to look new. Then there's the metallic paint. An exact match must occur for a new spray to be invisible. While there is formula for the exact paint match, and instructions for the spray nozzle size, air pressure, distance from the surface, temperature, and pass overlap...it can still take an artist to make it perfect.

    Good luck with all that. Your best remedy is to drive and park defensively.
