TMC will not stop selling other cars now, because they think that FC will be dominant 30 years from Today.... i wouldnt worry about that.

All I'm going to say, is everything I thought I knew about Hybrids is being challenged.

And it makes me feel wrong and dirty.

Do remember that these documents are for the Japanese model, as already mentioned. In Japan cars sell that have lots of "gizmos" built in. Stuff you can't or won't get in North America (as in won't be offered, and you wouldn't want anyway).

Toyota has said in previous interviews that the new Prius will probably cost less than the current one similarly equipped. From this I would suspect the base model would be slightly less, and with all the new and improved stuff, the fully equipped model would cost a bit more than the current fully equipped model (because it has more stuff).

BUT, it's too early to speculate. Don't be getting depressed over prices.

i dont remember Toyota saying that, but keep in mind that pricing is set by marketing department, not head engineer. They basically have a sales goal and set price based on that for specific market.

They might give us more equipment for the same price, or lower the price only slightly.. if PiP gets double or tripple battery size, then i very much doubt it will be priced the same. PiP is not their sales leader to lower their margins for it.

But who knows, these are just opinions. They announced sales date in Japan - Early January 2016, and I believe their pricing is in line with before, but possibly more base equipment (as we already know).

I don't recall that but remember that "reduced cost" doesn't necessarily mean reduced MSRP. They could decide to maintain MSRP and add standard equipment instead or increase MSRP (esp. in Canada now that the exchange rate with the U.S. isn't as favourable as before. I don't know how that reflects to the Yen). If you ask me, there'll be a slight increase in the base MSRP in Canada.

There is a saying "if you don't have anything good to say, then don't say",... that is what Toyota is doing.. :)

these things are not attributes of prius, i would look for specs that toyota is concentrating on.

I would say starting with vegas, this has been a botched roll out.
They seemed to have focused so much PR on the mirai, they forgot how important the prius is to them.

I doubt it will hurt sales, as that will depend mainly on the engineering, but it makes you wonder about the marketing talent at toyota.

plugin prius hasnt even been announced, so you will not get that info for a year or so.

As to system power and 0-60, i think we should get system power soon (in a month at most), but 0-60 will come from Toyota USA or Toyota Europe since Toyota Japan usually doesnt list that on web.

The goal of a long, drawn out, release is to maximize the amount of 'free' press. It may seem unfair to those interested in the 'latest hotness' but . . . in about 60-90 days . . . the first 2016 Prius should be on sale. Sooner in Japan, six weeks later (shipping delay) to North America. Unless you are facing death in the next 90-120 days, calm down and wait for test articles.

Now I'm 65 yet willing to wait 2-3 years. We have two Prius and neither one is broke. So I would prefer to wait on the 2016 model in years 2018 or 2019. By then they will incorporate the factory installed, fixes for infantile problems.

Because of the technical advances, I was willing to be an early adopter of the 2010 (1.5L -> 1.8L, exhaust heat recovery, belt-less, EGR.) But from what I've seen, I would prefer to advise the early adopters of the 2016. If I get too anxious, I can always rent one and have my Engineering Validation Integration Labs (EVIL) way with her.

By that time, you may be able to add the Model 3 to your comparison list.

One of the media outlets hinted that a media test drive event will occur in November. So, once we start seeing test drive articles on the new Prius, there should be full specifications. There might be a full video of the walkaround by Dave Lee from Toyota University explaining all the new features like he does in the video below of the new Camry.

There are some things that concern me having quickly gone through the document. Things that Toyota feels were very positive changes but I am concerned they may exactly the opposite for me.

The lower center of gravity has benefits, but lowering the car, in terms of the driving position, is a negative to me. I prefer a taller car in general. We've had low cars in the past but have opted for a higher seating position which we feel gives a better view of the road ahead and to the sides.

The modified seating position is more laid back. I much prefer a straighter more vertical seating position. To me the laid back position is uncomfortable, especially on long rides. Toyota claims the opposite in the document. I believe that in order to squeeze more mpg out of the car they had to shrink the height of the car to make it more streamlined. This has negative effects on other things but in a true marketing fashion they are painted as positive.

It looks as if there are only two interior color choices; grey or black. Having spent years in the Navy with just about everything on the ship painted grey I find that color to be depressing. Black appeals to me in electronics such as a PC tower case or a DVD player, but not for the inside of a car. I hope there is a tan version for the U.S. model.

Toyota seems proud of their "white ornamentation" which has been slammed quite hard on this board. It appears there are other options. I certainly won't buy a car with "white ornamentation".

I suspect the greatest benefits to the TNGA platform has much more to do with Toyota profit than any benefit to the customer. I have a friend who lives in Colorado where the is much winter snow. She searches for cars with more clearance. Lowering the car may be the reason she will not purchase a Gen IV.

These comments are after looking through the pdf document (thanks for posting). I certainly hope I'll be able to find a model that suits me although it is looking more and more difficult. I need a spare tire, will miss the storage features that have been left out of the Gen IV, no white bathroom fixtures, etc. etc. etc. All I really wanted was a bit more MPG, and I was hoping for traditional gauges in front of me rather than pushed over to the middle.

The new car has so many tweaks and changes, most of which mean very little to me. Yet many of the changes seem to be changes away from the ideal for me. The more I know about the car the less I like it. We will probably buy one for the improved mpg, but rather than being excited about it I feel more like it is a compromise. To get higher mileage we'll have to put up with this, and this, and this...
