When I returned it to the dealership I explained the overheating was of far greater concern to me than the throttle body and he kept if for an hour or so and could not recreate the problem (of course). I would think they would check that, especially since we looked to make sure it was replaced on the recall. It was. I will check pump right now. I have driven it almost 100 miles since yesterday after cleaning tb and maf with no issues. Brb after checking inverter.

Also, he said the fan was fine. I can't get it to kick on I save my life. I don't have a power supply to check it directly.

Ok I checked inverter coolant res and the hose is vibrating but I don't see a lot of movement in the reservoir. Not sure?

The pump makes a whining noise, almost like a continuous beep. The hose coming off the pump and the hose to the reservoir both vibrate but I do not see any serious turbulence inside.

Do you see any fluid motion? Does it sound like there is air in the inverter coolant loop system?

Ok I checked again. Forgive my ignorance on this, it's my first time. I do see the fluid swirling a bit. And like I said, both hoses are vibrating well. The car is still operating with no issues. The whining/continuous beep I heard is actually coming from the air filter box.

That is probably the throttle motor making an unusual amount of noise. More reason to replace it.

Yeah my mpg is bad also. I'm going to replace it Monday. Any recommendations on where to order one? Is local parts store fine?

I would not expect a local parts store to carry this. I would get the correct Toyota part.

Either used, from autobeyours.com, eBay or a salvage yard of your choice, or else a new unit from parts.com or a dealer that sells discounted parts over the web, such as AutoNation Toyota Gulf Freeway, Houston.

    $60 or less on eBay.

If you are going to replace this yourself, also buy a new throttle body gasket. You do not need engine vacuum leaks.

If you get another warning light or MFD message for overheating or whatever, take some sharp photos and post them.

Got it, thanks so much, Patrick. Sharp photos of what exactly?

Got it. I assume since you referred me to the Toyota website there is no write up here for doing this job? I can't find one on search, just that there is a gasket and 5 hoses and 3 bolts. I almost feel like i could do this without a manual but it sort of scares me because of all the tech in this car.

I am not aware of a webpage having to do with this.

You are right, the job is reasonably simple so if you feel you don't need access to the repair manual, have at it.

I think I'll pay the few dollars and at least have a look at the website. Thanks again for all of your help.

thanks again everyone. looking through the manual, it says to disconnect the battery and also to drain the coolant. i feel like i can do this job without doing those things, but i'm no real mechanic. any advice? i

It is not necessary to disconnect the 12V battery as long as you are sure the car is IG-OFF before you start.

It is not necessary to drain the coolant; there are just two small coolant hoses that connect to the throttle body, and you can plug the hose openings with pencil stubs or some similar means.

ok so i got it on. there was a small learning process. the hardest part was of course the clip on the TPS. pretty tight area to work in. it ended up being simple when i figured it out. small flathead pushed in and pushed off easily. thanks for the heads up on the water hoses pencil trick. still lost a good bit of coolant. im going to top off, hope thats ok and i wont get air in there. it runs, but i havent taken it very far yet. i want to sincerely thank you guys for helping a seriously amateur mechanic get this done.

i did test the old throttle body when i got it off and it seemed fine to me. but i have a cheap multimeter and dont really know anything about electronics and resistance. im going to have another shop look at it.

as an aside, i noticed my car was low on oil. i never really checked it before, but i will be now. thanks again. wish me luck.
