Subjective as it may be...and I own 2 Gen IIIs...the Prius never was and up to Gen IV release, still is not a beautiful looking car. It's an efficient, reliable, functional econobox.

Except that I actually like the looks of the G3 (even more so now that the G4s are out!!!)

    Exactly!

I held out to see what the Gen 4's would look like in hopes of really being "blown away" as it was supposed to do to all of us per the marketing team, and hopefully upgrading to a Gen4 eventually... Was hoping for a variation of the concept Prius with the big rims that looked so cool... But alas I was absolutely not blown away, quite disappointed actually.

Hence one of the reasons I opted to trade my Gen3 in before the already crazy low trade value goes down anymore as the Gen 4 is not in my future...

I really did like the styling on my 2015 Persona though...

on a plus note, the more people buy g3's, the more the price will drop on the g4. better for me!

GM prettied many cars. I wonder how new Malibu hybrid does. Accord is nice but more expensive. I think if Hyundai is as pretty as Sonata and as functional as Gen3 it will get many Gen4 sales as long as MPG is there.

I am also concerned about the lack of storage areas in the G4. Old folks like me remember Volkswagen Beetles of the 60's & 70's. They had a flat shelf-like thingy up front just a few inches below the dash assembly that extended all the way from the left to the right hand side on the car - just above the knees. I wonder if there is room for something like that in the G4?

i love that kind of stuff, and have always wondered at the lack of aftermarket options.

you don't think gas prices will affect sales?

+1. We will be holding on to our Gen3 until Gen5 or perhaps midcycle refresh fixes it. If not Hyundai starting look really good..

suspect with Gen4 Prius sales will continue to slide down, and then it will get blamed on low gas prices. Then when Hyundai and 'bu are out, on stiffer competition.
    .
If this is a redesign I hate to see how bad it was before they "fixed" it!.

I will probably keep my 2015 Prius and just unload my 2010 for a RAV4 Hybrid. Problem solved.

I suspect (without knowing), that the G4 final design is the result of upper management making design demands, and the styling department designers (whatever their title} being overruled. Basically, that is what we were told. The design is clumsy. No other word for it. It certainly is not attractive in whole, or in detail.

The only other possibility is, I am too old to appreciate the youthful design. There are so many other really attractive cars out there. Too bad Toyota put what sounds like a really superior, updated, and efficient innards, in an exterior that falls short.

I admit I am kind of weird, well... Maybe "different". But I truly believe the Prius is in fact a beautiful car. Admittedly, I also have no problem whatsoever with the way an Echo looks, or really any car for that matter, so what do I know? To me it looks great and I don't really care what others think, I'm way more into the way a car drives and feels rather than what it looks like in the end...

    Also... MERGED

Some may be surprised by what I'm about to post.... I actually do get many compliments on my "Girl"...

to me issue is that design doesn't flow. For example the rear fin/spoiler is obviously afterthought, and while not my cup of tea can look attractive from specific angle. Problem is it doesn't connect to anything the 2nd edge on side is really ugly, and sides is what driver/buyer is gonna look at 90% of the time.
Parts of the car while not unattractive by themselves look really disproportionate. Sort of like the Halloween masks of famous people.
It may be a great car with greater MPG, but it will be a hard sell against more attractive alternatives. I mean who wouldn't pay $5/mo in extra gas not to drive an ugly car?

I wouldn't pay one red cent for that, the G4 isn't ugly, no other car can serve the same purpose, the next closest would cost a heck of a lot more that $5 a month (closer to hundreds), and there are no competitors that look any better.

Want a good looking car? Get a purple '69 Cameron or a Candy Apple Red '57 Chevy.

And the g3 isn't good looking either.

you are doing the same thing tho, you think nobody is going to like it and you started several threads about it where people tell you they like it :)

in 2016, G4 will worldwide probably double 2015 sales of G3.

.. the more comparison pictures between G3 and G4 I see, the more I have the feeling that the G4 has sculptured and emphasised the styling details of the G3 - it is wider and not as tall as G3 with proportions that tend to be more sporty.

    Is it a beauty?

Not as refined as Italian styling can be, it will never be a steam hammer like a Mustang GT, it got more lumps and bumps than a modern Hyundai, just a distinct look like all Prius had.
