If this makes it out of the lab, it could help reduce cost of fuel cells and flow batteries. It may also make PEM fuel cells plus reformer more cost competitive with Solid Oxide fuel cells.

The manufacturing method may also help this possible advance by allowing less expensive manufacture of AEM fuel cells.

No there is a lot of work and potential for flow batteries for small scale grid storage and power back up. I don't think it makes much sense in transporation as lithium battery prices have gotten so low.
