For the past few days, when I press the power button, I hear the beeps and then every dashboard symbol appears - except the Hybrid System Indicator screen is completely dark. The car seems to be turned on - but when I try to put the car in reverse to back out of my garage, it won't change gears. When I go to press Power to shut it down, it takes about 5-10 seconds to shut off.

I found that opening and closing the driver's side door helps reset something so that the HSI turns on and the car eventually starts.

I just replaced the batter about 2 years ago. Was living in Minnesota at the time (replaced it during winter) and now live in Palm Springs. The temp here has been cold (for here, anyway) - in the 50s and 60s.

    Any ideas?

Are you using a scangauge or similar OBD device? Maybe the CAN bus is getting confused with data and opening/closing the door sends a message that clears it out? Just a crazy guess

hows the 12 volt? even at 2 years, it's worth checking, takes 2 minutes.

I was wondering you had a scangauge plugged into your OBD port, sounds like probably not. If not that, 12V would probably be my next guess for odd problems such as this.
