Like others, it took me three times to get the second part correct. But something strange happened. The old fob would unlock ALL the doors. After I finally got the new fob working, both the old fob and the new fob unlock only the DRIVER"S door. I'm not sure how that happened. I wonder if it's something I should be concerned about.

That's a setup issue in your car. If you press unlock twice, it will unlock all doors. You have to tell the Prius to unlock all doors. I can't remember how to do it but just Google it.

    Glad you got it programmed.

This is how it works on 3rd gen. Might be the same:

    Capture.JPG

This stuff is in the Owner's Manual, BUT: it's a big book, and hard to find what you're looking for specifically. Go to Toyota Tech Info site: you can download Owners Manuals in pdf format. Then it's relatively easy to search the document for specific phrases. As you can see above I looked for "door unlock", which is highlighted.

Once you find it, physical bookmarks in the paper manual are handy. Or print out pages from the pdf, keep in glove box.

Thanks a ton guys...saved a few hundred bucks. Took a few tries for the final steps. As mentioned previosuly in the post the timing for that one is very sensetive.
The lock/unlock works, but the red remote panic button doesn't. Is there seperate programming required for this? Or is something wrong in my new fob or car?

Just tested my Panic Button on my new remote programmed with the "Chicken Dance" method.. Mine works fine. you are pressing and holding the red button right? I simple press won't trigger, you have to hold it for a few seconds.

That doesn't work on mine either. If I push unlock on fob once, rear doors are still locked.

If any either front door's unlock feature is touched, all the doors become unlocked tho.

Okay thanks.. I thought I was doing it wrong. So from the Remote .. you must press twice to unlock all doors but if the driver side outside door handle is touched or the door "unlock" button from the inside is pressed ALL Doors unlock. Correct?

Touch of hatch or front passenger unlock does too: unlocks 'em all.

    All,

I am happy to report that I was able to program my second hand non sks black keyfob to start the engine and unlock the doors today. The procedure in the first post worked for me. I actually tried a variation first (pressing both lock and unlock buttons for 4 flashes of the LED) which did not work for me. Pressing both buttons for a second and a half resulted in success.

I took care to buy a second hand fob from ebay that was exactly the same model as the single black for that I already had. It looked pretty worn so I think it was someones main key, probably used well in excess of 250 times.

Hello, thanks for all of the useful information as I was able to purchase a used FOB online for $25. Today, I was successfully able to reprogram it to operate the car on my second try; however, had no luck reprogramming it to remotely unlock/lock the doors. I followed the directions and the car locked/unlocked the doors twice as indicated in Step 9, but no luck after that. In fact, the car never responded with either one or two lock/unlock sequences as stated in Step 12. Does anyone have any ideas of what I may be doing wrong or something else to try?

What you did wrong was buying the used FOB. The FOB can't be programmed easily, unless you buy NEW.

You can't program a used fob for SKS functions.

Is there a "chicken dance" for the 3rd Gen Prius or is it strictly a 2nd Gen feature?

Hey guys, I just found this page and need some help. I tried the chicken dance and could not get it to work. I have 2 key fobs non sks. I recently changed the internal parts to a new case on one of the fobs. That fob no longer starts the car, but will unlock the car. I tried to use the instructions here and a youtube video of the same steps and nothing happened. the light on the car goes solid and then it flashes and does not stop like the video I saw or from what I read here. Does anyone have any idea on what I could try. Both fobs are original ones that came with the car. I would like to get the one working as the, only one that starts the car is starting to fall apart. Any help would be appreciated.
