OK, apart better fuel consumption, what's the big deal for the Gen4 Prius?

Make it a condition of sale, that way service will not try to bill you.

Yes, it is. The business case of buying a car is almost always extremely thin, unless you own a 20 year old Hummer, with gasoline at $4.50 per gallon...

It's more a bit of a question of comparing the new features/technologies against your desires (or displeasure with your current vehicle)....

exactly. Unless that's what you've always wanted and you've determined it is within your means to acquire, then, the pleasure may outweigh the practicality... and there's nothing wrong with that, either...

Actually, it seems to me that Toyota is downplaying the "fuel consumption" aspect of the Gen 4.

They are clearly selling it on the basis of it's interior refinements, exterior looks and reported better driving dynamics.

I'm not buying one right away, or this year.
I'll let others be in the first wave of discovery. Listen and read the reaction and feedback. Usually Toyota makes improvements during the first refresh.

What's The Big Deal For The Gen 4 Prius?

Well Toyota is advancing it as a much more evolved and improved complete vehicle.

I have no reason to doubt it. I think it IS an improvement. I would want my "next" Prius to be a Gen 4. But I don't feel I want to go out immediately and "need" to make this upgrade.

It's "fun" sometimes to just sit back and read about others experience here. I can hear about the strengths...and I suppose also some of the weaknesses. And in 2-3 years? I should have a real good idea of what a Gen 4 Prius ownership represents.

I suppose it will take an adjustment to come to Prius Chat and NOT be on top the generational evolution mountain. But I can live with it.

Good gosh, that white trim is even uglier in a daylight video than all of the ones I've seen shot at night. For the love of gawd Toyota, WHY???

Yeah, that's it. Which is exactly why it's been rumored that they are going to be making a snap-on cover that you can purchase. By doing so they've admitted that they "messed up". :)

So, they are actually going to release it? If I get the Gen 4 that will be the first accessory I purchase. ;)

there's a pic somewhere, it's already in production. quite a few people who have seen it in person, like it. but toyota knew that not everyone would.

Maybe if that accessory flies off the shelves they'll cave and change the colour.

You can almost guarantee that if there's enough complaints, it will be changed with the midlife update. (Look what happened with the 2012 Prius and the 2nd front cupholder change, as well as the shuffling of options).
