Hi All, I am sorry to post this but cannot find the terms to properly search! My 2008 Prius needs a new panel that holds the license plate lights and the trunk release and lock buttons. Needed to properly replace the release button several years ago but was just using electric tape as a stop gap but now the entire panel broke off, not just the push screws but part of the panel broke. Any help on what part this is called and possible cheap place to purchase?

    "Back door garnish subassembly"

Buy it from one of the Toyota dealers that sell discounted parts over the web such as AutoNation Toyota Gulf Freeway, Houston, TX.

Stop using that part as a handle for the hatch if you don't want to break the newly installed part.

Great will look into that suggestion. Not sure how else to open the trunk! It lasted almost 8 years so I cant really complain that it broke at this point.

I generally push down on the spoiler to close the hatch since repairing it twice and seeing how flakey its constructed. 5 bolts glued in !

Well, the spoiler isn't mounted that solidly, either... I use the license plate to push down on the hatch.

To open the hatch, I would exert lifting force on the bottom of the hatch, after raising the hatch slightly using the license plate garnish.
