@bisco i didn't answer all of your question. What i meant is from what i understand Toyota was challenged with fords Eco boost and the advanced tech on the Tesla. Which well enough for us as pushed Toyota to produce the "new hybrid System" with economy boost which will be available on the gen 4 Prius. And the power button gives a notable increased torque to the 2016 Prius.

The "New Hybrid System" if I'm not mistaken is standard in all 2016 models. And the Prius 2 Eco gives you, the li-Ion battery,Eco badging, auto on off headlights, the smart key system on all 3 doors, and the two tone wheel cover paint.

Since it is not a diesel, no problem. The catalytic converters on gassers are well established and work well. But it got me wondering of VW could just offer new Jetta hybrids or even Jetta gassers as an even trade for the Jetta TDIs?

None of the VW gassers, hybrids or electrics have any reports of emissions problem suggesting an incentive program to get the old TDIs off the road. Offer a new car, identical model, for the cheat-diesels, a direct swap. In effect, give the owners of the cheat-diesel 'free miles', the difference between the used TDI miles and new car. Very clean and the cheapest way to get the cheat-diesels off the road.

The irony is the hybrid Jetta would return better mileage than the cheat-diesels. Eight years of anti-Prius propaganda (aka., "Meet the Volkswagens") might have poisoned their customers switching to a Prius. But in this case, they might go for a Jetta hybrid and VW keep a customer.

My thinking is a fair solution:
    • $20,000 buy-back check for Jetta TDIs and adjust for Golf and other models
    • OR with check, an even-trade of new, loaded Jetta gasser or hybrid plus $200 'tags'
If the owner cashes the check, VW loses them to someone else. But I suspect the manufacturing cost of a replacement car should be less than $20,000.

if vw steps up they step up but there is no way they will every even begin to scratch at Toyota with there hybrid systems, at least not until the storm they caused is settled and they can begin to really sit down and begin to invest in the researching side of how too accomplish a well made hybrid vehicle.

I look forward to seeing the new Prius in person. The Prius is not our only car. I look upon it as an economical, safe and reliable appliance. It will never be fast or very sporty. I see the interior of the 2016 as an incremental improvement but the lack improvement in the audio system is disappointing. Based upon the criteria I apply, economics and reliability, the best new Prius, for me was a 2015 at a $7000 discount.

If the new models technology had leapfrogged the prior model my thoughts might have been different. Your criteria may be very different than mine.

Well in a nutshell, I've stated I like the front end but not the rear. The interior i'm holding out on until I can see it in person.

Don't let this smog issue cloud the big picture here Bob. Swapping a VW TDI for a VW gasser or VW hybrid gasser does not fix their big problem of over priced, unreliable junk.

TBO, it's really hard to get the full understanding and experience by watching all of the videos on line and the litmus test will be seeing the vehicle in person and driving it.

Always interesting to see the comments;)

Everyone should forget for the moment that this says VW. Looking at the Jetta hybrid, Toyota could learn something. Not about hybrids, but about cars. If my car had this interior and suspension, I'd say WOOHOOOOO!

    We all see something different.
I see an elegant, classy timeless exterior apart from the silly wheels/tires
I see a cleaner interior design than the Prius but the same two tone triumph of fashion over function
