Danny doesn't like us anymore and wants us away :(
I don't see any need for a new chat, you could just rename this one to something like alt-fuel or something :D

I'm okay even if it's the lowest trim one (hypersonic red preferably) :D

    Interesting link:

Not sure I like the look of that one on the road, looks a bit not-so-well put together :(

Don't worry rich people are already taxed more and not even that rich are overtaxed. For a paycheck of 1,500 €/month (pension, insurance included) my employer must pay 2,650 € and on everything you buy there is 22% tax. For a paycheck of 5,000 € employer must pay 12,000 €. It's called Socialism.

Oh hello neighbor. (Pozdrav). Yeah, and Germany is probably the worst in that as
And that's the reason why Europeans that have high income don't have as high buying power.

Looking into why the log-in isn't working. Hopefully I'll have it back working today.

lol, I wasn't worried.;) It just seemed with all the other things set to tax in europe:eek:, horsepower seems counter productive.

You already tax the rich and the gasoline and the ghg. Probably could tax unsafe cars and unhealthy tail pipe pollutants:cool: But I don't get how low horsepower is a public good. It is utilitarian, but you still have aristocrats and more of a caste system in parts of Europe.

Low horsepower usually means cheaper car, less polution, less luxury (luxury is heavily taxed - like boat engines, etc.), less noise, etc.
Anything with high hp (200+) is considered a sports car or a show-off car.

Somebody up there mentioned that hp has some relation to increased safety? Most insurance houses consider more powerful car a bigger threat.

There is that one major that just yesterday got into media spotlight because he bought a 40,000$ official car that has 200hp, automatic gearbox and 4wd drive. Comments on his actions were along the line that he's trowing the money away, asking why would he need such a luxury car, and demands for him to resign from position.

There is no car culture such as one in the US where every family seems to have one car of each family member. You have a car if you have a good job and are able to afford it - otherwise you use public transport. Also, even getting a drivers licence will set you back about 1500$, and you can get it only at 18 after 2 weeks of lessons, 30h driving with instructor and passing a 300$ driving exam.

Different cultures, different buying power and different stances toward cars.

I find myself completely bored with the direction this conversation has taken. I checked the overall "2016 Prius" heading, and there is no interest on any of the threads., at least that is generating discussion.

    OK - A topic:
If I had the computer skill, I would post 3 pictures, all 3/4 rear view: A - the 2015 Prius; B - the 2016 Prius and C - the 2016 Ioniq. The side profiles are somewhat similar, and the front view as well, except for the Ioniq. I'd ask for likes and dislikes.

the best two threads are, 'lets hear from buyers', and, 'prius on the way to east coast'. the only interesting discussion for me is new owners and real world driving reviews. every day should add more. unfortunately, the threads get so confusing, people don't know where to post. just look at all the stickies, it makes them unimportant.

I thought there was already taxes for the rich and VAT on expensive so how many taxes do you need. I think you have fuel consumption tax and ghg tax. Is it just any way people can think to tax is ok, regardless. I think the european regulation of hp instead of pollution gives european cities much more air pollution from cars than the US. Those diesels that produce less ghg and stay low hp, seem to put out a great deal of tail pipe pollution in the cities. So no, regulating hp and ghg does a poor job of regulating unhealthy tailpipe emissions.

In the US a 300 hp V6 rwd mustang costs the same as a prius. Its not luxury or expensive. In fact the 6 cyclinder version is considered a secretary's car (low income but with some fun and flash). Prius owners have much higher incomes and wealth than v6 mustang owners. We have plenty of bizzare taxes in the US, I'm not judging, but it seems like a bad way to define rich. The more expensive turbo 4 has even more hp, but better fuel economy.

Yeah, No. We actually have statistics, and .... demographics not horsepower are much more likely factors in accidents. That means often low priced cars driven by newer drivers are the culprits. So yes you can do it on safety of the car, but this rarely has anything to do with hp. sports cars do get driven by accident prone demographics, and do cheap ecoboxes. High power sports sedans normally are safe, and have safer demographics.

Wouldn't the cost be a bigger problem than the hp. Seems like a foolish story to me. What if he spent 80,000 euro on a 100 hp hybrid, that would seem like more of a waste of taxpayer money.

Well yes. I think enforcing the cultural bias that high hp is wrong is the reason. It has nothing to do with wealth, or safety, or environmental concerns. Those are all better taxed/regulated in other ways.
The US has cultural bias in favor of hp. I don't think that is a bad thing. The bias also has some of the most restrictive air pollution standards. IMHO one fault of the US tax system when it comes to cars is high gas consumption is not taxed, so when oil prices drop like they do now, people buy thirstier cars, that will get the country in trouble again when opec gains pricing power again.

Apparently those diferencijalne are harder to explain than I tough they will be.

Let me say it another way: we DO have free healthcare, DO have free education (college year will cost you 40$), students do get 75% discount in some restaurants and we in general do have good public transport. We don't have car oriented culture, cars are a way to get somewhere, same as bus, train and etc.

That major that bought that car could have gotten a 25k$ car such as Golf Wagon or Škoda Octavia and etc. Why would an official need a car that has 4wd in a city where there is no snow, why would he need to spend 5k $ more on an automatic gearbox, and why would he need 200hp when every other car has about 100hp.

I feel we have gone quite a far way off topic, and to some body who lived whole life in usa, it is hard to explain different mentality of people.

Exterior and interior styling of the Ioniq is looking much better to my eye than the 2016 Prius (a disaster on both counts). Mechanically, remains to be seen.

Feel better I'm partially just tweaking you on an internet blog, because I think the hp tax is silly, and don't think a 145 hp hybrid really needs to get taxed more than a 90 hp diesel;)

Let me say it another way: we DO have free healthcare, DO have free education (college year will cost you 40$), students do get 75% discount in some restaurants and we in general do have good public transport. We don't have car oriented culture, cars are a way to get somewhere, same as bus, train and etc.
I don't think anyone "needs" more than 50 hp. I just think it is a funny scandal. Its not about hp, its about spending 37.5% more than you think he should have. If it was 50 hp and $50K would it have been any better? Its not about the hp. Then again we get these stories from europe. £120billion of your money down the drain EVERY year: The astonishing Whitehall waste that could send every British family on an annual luxury holiday | Daily Mail Online
The screamer here to me is the 475K pounds for rubber bullets that the government buys but says they can't use. Still that is small compared to lots of the waste, you just wonder why? Yep, US has pork like this too. I can't get too excited there, but Hey I feel your pain.

Oh I've traveled all over the world. I've got friends that make next to nothing, and don't own cars or houses, and couldn't think of being able to afford a car.

I didn't mean to tweak you. I should have used more smileys
