Winter Storm Jonas - Big Snow - PREPARE!

So, Dr. Wilson:

I know you are sort of the professor of all things complicated about the Prius that I do not understand (I've seen some of your other postings on other sites and I seriously mean you are quite well educated on things that baffle me).

Having said that, I live outside Seattle. Not part of this big storm. But, we do have our snow days and this area is honestly not equipped to handle them... a few inches and everyone falls to pieces.

So, from your post above, I think you are talking about turning the Prius into a generator of sorts? Which I have heard before.

I have a 1,000 watt Honda inverter, which I can use during power outages. But, it really does not have the "oomph" to take care of the refrigerator, nor will it run the microwave. At times. we have been without power for three weeks....and no way to leave to get to town (not had to eat the dogs yet, but I keep that as an option). I guess I could say that we also have no water during such emergencies, because we have a well and the well runs off an electric pump...

I do keep around 15 gallons of gasoline in the winter to use in the inverter.

So, can you direct me to a "fool-proof" way to do this....and can you say something wise and sage that will convince my wife to let me do this -- ie -- it will not destroy the Prius?

exactly. keep your shoveling distances as short as possible. i keep the firewood just far enough away that the termites can't fly.

 

Bisco you may be underestimating termites' flying abilities. Though I really dont know how they are in Boston.

For the affected areas, snow forecast is high. Presumably y'all know what to do, and that nobody from this group will carbon monoxide themselves out of existence. Don't park your car in a place that a snowplow will want to go.

Locate your 'global warming' books so you can pose them later in snowbanks

Unlike Bisco we've already seen Caberet so we're gonna watch Star Wars again

I would still rather use my purpose built generator. Works for all power outages, can and has run the whole house since before Prius. To each their own.

But those coordinates'll do; I'll enter them on the drone tomorrow.

@bwilson4web Checked your coordinates, and yup: near Huntsville AL.

When I saw your location being Huntsville Alabama I jumped to the erroneous conclusion: well he can't be getting snow there, must be somewhere more Northern at present. Strange, climate seems more a west/east thing these days. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother with snow tires, on the wet coast.
