yeah, that was a good suggestion, I'll give it a test tomorrow after work in my lower traffic neighborhood.

The reason I'm very suspicious that it is not just Hill Assist being activated, is I don't see why that would result in the OP having to shift into park and then back into drive.

Hill Assist only keeps the brakes activated for a second-or less, to keep the vehicle from rolling backwards on a hill. But even if you do activate either on purpose or accidentally it doesn't result in the vehicle not moving at all and having to be put in park and then put in drive.

Unless of course the OP is an idiot.....( Just kidding ).

JarrettOriginal, no one meant to be condescending to you or your request. Please understand that we have everyone here from gas-n-gos to Engineers. In an attempt to "help" I tried to duplicate your given problem with my 2010 Prius II in various situations. To the best of my knowledge there are no mechanical differences...as it relates. The only indicator that lights up on mine when I press harder or stomp the brake pedal as in your given scenerio is the "slip indicator" which is solid amber and on the left side of the display...until I give it gas. No shifting, restarting or rebooting was required to reset function or light. What you do with this info is your business, but you did ask us. What you described was not normal and I can only use my vehicle to verify this...which has no brake or transmissions issues. For the record...I am a Mechanic. "Start A Conversation" if you need material from the S-M.

    Slip indicator [10]
If one or more wheels begin to spin (slip), the slip indicator illuminates to indicate that Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and/or Traction Control (TRAC) are operating in order to regain traction. Depending on the vehicle, the slip indicator light may flash and/or a buzzer may sound intermittently as well.

That reply is what I was expecting, it was the multiple posts of be careful, which (now that my fever has broken and I'm sweating all over) was meant for the best.

As mulitple threads here have helped me, I was more looking to see if anyone has experienced a similar problem, that would help me diagnose, see if it was something I could do myself, and/or estimate a cost. I've read up on the slip indicator, and the post from the V section with someone experiencing a similar issue. Didn't seem to be resolved in that thread either.

Gonna give it a good test tomorrow and go from there.

Realized I never updated, turns out to be the hill assist.

I just didn't know about it, and it scared the crap out of me. Had I had half a second of more patience it would have let up and I would have moved on. But in LA traffic, when that light turns green and you can't move...

glad it wasn't a bigger issue!

I was thinking it can't be Hill Hold, because it only prevents roll back.

Maybe applied on level ground it prevents the usual transmission creep as well? Experiment.

it simply activated brakes, so it works both ways.
