Nothing happens when I put the phone in the charger. My dealer says we need to buy something extra

    ???
You're driving a NEW model 4 touring and you STILL have to buy something else to get the Qi charger to work ....again???

    That doesn't smell right.
I'd get the dealer to work explaining this to me.

    You're driving a new car.
    It's still under warranty.
Make them deny the warranty claim, in writting, and then get back with us.

Wireless chargers only work on a handful of phones. Everything else including all iPhones will require an adapter.

I'll try to save you some time, if your phone doesn't support wireless charging out of the box, you don't want to buy the adapter. Search qi wireless. What phone do you have?

    OK...THAT makes more sense.
I drive a droid, so I thought that I-thingies were wireless compliant.

I bought a QI case for my iPhone and used it in my Avalon Hybrid. Very poor performance. Short experiment.

Yup, as I thought, reviews for wireless chargers on an S5 are very poor just as they are for iPhones. I only did a quick couple minutes reading on Amazon. I'd suggest upgrading to an S6 which has wireless charging built in. The S7 is coming out so the S6 is going to be real cheap real soon.

You'll be money ahead by buying a leftover S6....but I'm glad that the dealer and the car are not at fault here.

    Enjoy the new G4!

Once I get the S6 or S7, I can just put the phone there and it'll charge?

We bought several wireless chargers on Black Friday, when they are marked way down.

It's handy as heck being able to just lay the phone (we both have S6s) down in a room and have it charge without the need to plug in.

I can't wait for that ability in my next Prius, since I often listen to content from the phone while driving. Of course, I'm hoping the car itself will be able to charge without plugging in too.

I have neither phones or a 2016 Prius so I don't know. I do have a Nexus 5 with wireless charging. I see you're in the Bay Area. If you give me a ride, I'd gladly demonstrate it for you.
Its not just handy but more durable for your tech. My daughter has already destroyed the home button on an iPad by violently ripping away the iPad so that the 30 pin connector bent the aluminum frame over the home button. She did the same to an Amazon Fire tablet. Those micro USB sockets are a lot more fragile than Apple's Lightning connector it seems. My brother also turned his Nexus 5 into a brick so its not relegated to just children. I was able to coax the phone to accept a charge if I angle the connector just right. I was disappointed that USB-C still used the same design as micro b with the metal contacts on the female end instead of on the male end as a lightning connector. I hope I am wrong about USB-C and in the meantime will full embrace wireless charging as soon as my phonw supports it.
