    Do you know which ones?

Of course, with their entire 2015 sales only coming to this count, what difference does it really make:

    BMW 3-Series Diesel = 247
    BMW 5-Series Diesel = 215
    BMW X5 Diesel = 207
    BMW X3 Diesel = 186
    BMW 7-Series Diesel = 14

There's no comparison to a PZEV rated hybrid with a plug anyway. BMW's own i3 is a clear effort in that direction... of which, they sold far more of here.

Actually, those sales figures were for the month of December, not for the entire year. The entire year (2015) according to Hybridcars...

    BMW 3-Series Diesel = 3,321
    BMW 5-Series Diesel = 1,356
    BMW X5 Diesel = 5,121
    BMW X3 Diesel = 1,784
    BMW 7-Series Diesel = 20

Granted, those are relatively small numbers, but the point is that diesel can be as clean as gasoline, even hybrids.

All of the BMW U.S. diesel vehicles technically meet SULEV standard except 5-series and 7-series which just miss the FTP NOx limit (0.03 g/mile vs 0.2 g/mile).

...which is what we've been told for a decade. Ironically, it was the "clean" promotion of diesel that contributed heavily to the disaster VW is dealing with now.

Like you said, the numbers are relatively small. That's not progress, especially when some of those sales had a tax-credit incentive.

    +1

Plus the range of "stuff" the owner has to worry about (DPF, SCR) just to make them so-called clean. Sure we hybrid owners need to deal with traction battery and hybrid components, but so far there's nothing to worry about after 160k km of use.

Personally I wouldn't want a diesel car in my garage, it would stink out my garage, NOX and PM are just the poison that my family don't need. I rather a hybrid or even better an BEV (or a FCV if I have the money)

    Thank you for posting values:
It is not easy to meet emissions standards and anyone who does it right deserves credit. Just the cheat-diesels did something really bad.

The VW, cheat-diesels just barely met the standard, ~80% versus the Prius under 10%. Yet VW touted the "clean" because being a PASS-FAIL system, they passed.

that's not what bugs me - it's that Volkswagen was claiming they were so pure - they ought to get white sticker type HOV lane privileges as though they were as spotless as driving all electric

That would be TRADITIONAL gasoline engines. Their crude method of starting simply cannot compare to the way Prius does it.

Waiting until oil-pressure is established and having the engine already spun up to idle speed is much cleaner.

The point I was trying to make there is that upstream emissions of ULSD are lower than upstream emissions of gasoline, which more than offsets the higher vehicular emissions of the TDI.

Official certified emissions of both versions of the Jetta were used for that graphic, and I was duped just like the regulatory agencies. I feel totally betrayed by VW and agree that this scandal has probably damaged diesel technology's reputation as much or more than the poorly-designed GM diesels of the 1980s. I certainly do not have any inclination to defend VW whatsoever.
