    I wonder how much that "plugless charger" would cost and if it would negate the cost savings of using electricity over gas... That's why I didn't go for the fast charger system in my house, not worth it to me cost wise.

    i think the price of the pip over lift back negates the cost savings anyway.

    Cost is possible issue to be honest my thinking is wait 3 years for a used one, if I am still so inclined. In Virginia it's not just the car cost we have high annual tax on cars! So I need some depreciation

    I still don't get the benefits of the plugless charger. It takes longer to charge, it's less efficient, less flexibility since you have to move your cars around if you share the charger (EVSE) with multiple cars (home or public usage), impractical for outside driveway use (as opposed to closed garage) since it wouldn't make sense to put it away when you're not using it, (assumed) increase cost. All to save the few seconds of grabbing a plug and connecting it to the car?

    I thought the same about getting the L2 charger, but ended up finding one super cheap on clearance, and it made buying a Leaf much simpler later on since I could charge at full speed when I brought it home.

    I hope not but even if PiP2 gets axed, I hope they bring out the production version of NS4.

    I have a wireless charger for my smartphone, and while it is "cool" to just be able to drop my phone on the charger, it is "hot" for the battery. My battery monitoring app often shows temperature soaring to 105 degrees, while the temperature rises only a little bit when using the USB charger. And my Tylt charger is reputed to be one of the better wireless chargers in this respect. Heat is bad for LiIon batteries. I don't know if there would be a similar issue for wireless car charging.

    i would hate to see toyota give up on the pip, mostly because i would have to move on to another manufacturer, and spend my days here commenting on cars i know nothing about.(n)

    I was beginning to think the NS4 was a long forgotten dream. Its good to see at least a few of us are still clinging onto the hope that it will be produced one day.

    Concepts like that are basically just for information gathering. Any real-world rollout would only have bits of what was originally shown.

    The auto business is quite complex. They routinely do stuff like that to flush out ideas and gauge interest.

    What I don't get...if the Chevy Volt early gen 1 was able to do 35 miles with a smaller body, why couldn't the PiP 2nd gen do at least that?

    I'm one hoping for 35 miles + and the 56 mpg average gas...

    21-22 miles EV makes more sense, but why oh why with the technology even better couldn't the next PiP go 35 miles +? The Volt 2nd gen which is still smaller can do 50 !

    it can. it can do anything toyota wants it to do. but why do you compare it to volt? volt is an extended range ev. pip is a prius with higher mpg's and lower pollution. two completely different purposes.

    the question you should be asking is, why can't the volt, being so much smaller, get 50 mpg?
